Coronation Street ‘exit’ sealed as fans ‘predict’ character is sent to prison | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV
In the latest instalment of Coronation Street, viewers saw just how bad Simon Barlow’s (Alex Bain) drinking habits have become. After waking up hungover surrounded by empty bottles, he headed back to Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) and Nick Tilsley’s (Ben Price).
As both of them were busy, Nick asked Simon to drive his son Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan) to his chess tournament. Reluctantly, he agreed and the pair set off, although it wasn’t long before the alcohol in his system started to take effect.
Losing control of the car, he smashed into a pole as they both got out to see the damage. Not wanting to draw attention, Simon fled the scene with Sam and lied to Leanne about how he crashed.
During the episode, fans saw Simon finally confess he was driving over the limit and begged her not to tell Nick as he feared he’d throw him out. Struggling with his dad Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) not being around, an emotional Simon decided to try and contact him.
Realising the seriousness of the crash, Simon looked for train tickets out of Manchester to go to London and packed up his things. Although when Leanne arrived home she highlighted he’d be homeless with nowhere to go.
When Nick arrived home and demanded to know more about the crash, Simon remained silent, fearful of his reaction to knowing he was under the influence with Sam in the car.
Not wanting Simon to get into trouble, Leanne quickly covered for him and lied to her partner about what happened, making out it was faulty breaks.
Although it’s clear she wasn’t happy about the situation as she gave Simon a menacing glance.
With his alcohol problem continuing to spiral out of control, missing his dad and lying to Nick, could the pressure be too much for Simon to remain in Weatherfield?
It wasn’t long before people took to Twitter to share their thoughts on Simon’s crash as many believe this could be the start of his downfall.
@EnfieldGarry said: “You’re in trouble now Simon.”
@Greg_Phillips_ tweeted: “Simple Simon and Brains have left the scene of an accident. PC Tinker will have something to say no doubt.”
@jackietyler616 added: “Hopefully Simon goes down for life.” (sic)
@soapextras commented: “I’m obsessed with Simon abandoning the crime scene. Lock him up! Throw away the key! #Corrie.” (sic)
With the soap star set to make his departure from the ITV soap soon, could this be how Simon leaves the cobbles?
Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV from 8pm.
