Brian Packham (played by Peter Gunn) could find out he has new family members after making a DNA discovery on Coronation Street. The headteacher has been determined to learn more about his family tree and ITV spoilers have revealed he becomes fixated on the results of a DNA test.

When his DNA test confirms he’s of Italian descent, Brian’s absolutely thrilled.

However, as Brian lists all his Italian traits, his friend Mary Taylor (Patti Clare) points out he’s only eight percent Italian.

He refuses to listen to her comments and becomes set on learning about his extended family.

Later on, he informs Mary he’s joined some family tree websites in the hope of tracing his Italian relatives and possibly meeting some of them.

He teased his long-time friend Mary is someone his character has in mind of getting close to.

“I’d love it,” Peter told Inside Soap. “They are both quite surreal and off-the-wall, and work together very well.

“They could be a very strong pairing, and I love working with Patti.”

He added: “Characters like Brian and Mary provide light relief alongside the hard-hitting storylines; not to say that’s frivolous or meaningless, but it gives the balance of light and shade that Corrie does so well.”

Will a romance blossom between the two friends or will his DNA journey tear them apart if he becomes obsessed with finding family members?

Is there a chance Brian could jet off to Italy after tracing members of his extended family down?

Would Mary come with him to offer her support, or will she remain doubtful about the situation?

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and ITVX.
