All you need to know about starting the Grandmapocalypse in Cookie Clicker, and the consequences of starting it.
Cookie Clicker is perhaps the god-emperor of casual games because the task is basic as are the controls. You start off with a simple screen showing you a large cookie and you just need to click on it. The more you click, the more cookies you get, and conveniently you’ve been transported to a universe where cookies serve as a viable currency. With the cookies you’ve clicked, you’re able to visit a shop to spend them on things and hire employees that can get you more cookies. It may come as no surprise that the cornerstone of baking cookies is grandmas, and Cookie Clicker knows that too.
One of the first major upgrades you’ll get for your cookie operations is bringing on a grandma. You’ll quickly amass enough cookies to have a baking army of grandmas who will bake tirelessly to give you all the cookies you want. Though they may seem like sprites of the same elderly woman, the grandmas are not as sweet and innocent as they may seem. Sure, they’ll make your cookie empire look a lot more wholesome on the service, but they hide dark powers. Yes, these senior pastry artisans can lead to an event called the Grandmapocalypse.
To start the Grandmapocalypse, you need to follow several key steps. First, you need to fulfil the conditions of having at least seven different types of Grandmas. This will give you access to the Bingo Center/Research Facility which will let you buy the “One Mind” upgrade. This will officially begin the event.
To reach the next stage, keep working until you can afford the “Communal Brainsweep” upgrade. This will cause more Wrath Cookies to appear as well as Wrinklers to appear much faster.
Finally, you need to progress through production and upgrades until you afford the “Elder Pact”. This will transform the Grandma Matriarchs into demonic entities and replace all possible Golden Cookies with Wrath Cookies. Wrinklers will appear even faster at this point allowing you to take advantage of their cookie-interest effects.
As a side note, if you’re going for completion, you’ll need to trigger the Grandmapocalypse, anyway. Don’t worry, though, as you can always buy upgrades to stall the event at certain stages if you’re having second thoughts.
