Coming Soon, The Valiant is a Medieval RTS Game Minus the Base Building – GameSpew

The Valiant

The trailer for The Valiant, an upcoming medieval real-time strategy game has taught us two things.

Firstly, it sounds as if engaging in some sword-wielding medieval skirmishes could be a lot of fun, particularly since you don’t have to get involved in base building. The trailer does show you building a structure, which we assume is for siege-related purposes, but you won’t have tents that vomit out unit after unit.

The second thing we’ve learned is that if you’re marching around and you stumble across a previously undiscovered holy relic, you should just smash it with a big hammer or otherwise render it unusable. Even if it doesn’t have spooky supernatural powers, having been constructed by some strange Atlantean race, people are just going to end up killing each other over it.

That’s precisely what happens in The Valiant. You play as Theoderich von Akenburg, a Knights Templar whose former brother in arms has found part of a holy rod (insert your own mucky joke here) and is determined to collect the remaining parts. Over the course of fifteen missions, you have to track him down and smack the relic right out of his stupid hands.

Developer Kite Games says The Valiant is “designed to bring a fresh experience to players wanting something new in the genre”. It’s focused on small-scale combat which, coupled with the fact you can’t churn out new units mid-battle, could make for an interesting experience.

So when can you get your hands on it and what platforms will it grace? It’s coming to PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. As for the release date, “coming soon” is the word from Kite and and publisher THQ Nordic.

Now, if you’ll excuse us, we’re off to seal the Spear of Destiny in solid concrete.
