Chris Pratt On Voicing Mario: Says It’s “Unlike Anything You’ve Heard In The Mario World”

Last September, Nintendo announced Chris Pratt would voice Mario in his upcoming movie. Chris at the time mentioned how he had been “working hard” to perfect the voice of the character, but we’re still yet to hear what it sounds like.

Now, in a new exclusive with Variety, Pratt’s spoken once again about voicing Mario – this time stating how he’s “really proud” of the voice and that it’s “unlike anything you’ve heard in the Mario world before”.

Here’s exactly what he had to say:

“I worked really closely with the directors and trying out a few things and landed on something that I’m really proud of and can’t wait for people to see and hear…It’s an animated voiceover narrative. It’s not a live-action movie. I’m not gonna be wearing a plumber suit running all over. I’m providing a voice for an animated character, and it is updated and unlike anything you’ve heard in the Mario world before.”

Just earlier this week, Illumination CEO and the film’s co-producer Chris Meledandri stated how the voice was “phenomenal”. He also noted how the film was now “three quarters done”.

The Super Mario movie will arrive next year in cinemas. Apart from Chris Pratt, the cast will include Charlie Day (Pacific Rim) as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen’s Gambit) as Princess Peach, Jack Black (School of Rock) as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key (Toy Story 4) as Toad and Seth Rogan (Pineapple Express) as Donkey Kong.
