Publisher Astrolabe Games and developer FUTU studio have jointly unveiled their latest game, Souls of Chronos. The game will be available globally on February 14, 2023, and is designed as a tribute to classic JRPG isometric adventures. PLayers will also be able to enjoy the game on their preferred platforms including PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
Souls of Chronos offers an experience focused on two main characters, Sid and Torii, as they explore the port city of Astella and beyond. Sid is just a normal human boy with a desire to see the outside world, but Torii is a “Chronus” who has the power to manipulate time. Together, they will use their combined powers to go on many thrilling adventures and protect Astella from inevitable doom. The story is five chapters long, each with a range of intertwined events and choices that will shape the world’s fate, as well as leading to one of four possible endings.
In the aftermath of the world-altering “Apocalypse” 15 years ago, Astella has teetered on the brink of chaos, as local gangs, secret societies, and other outside forces vie for power. Now, the Chronos species has risen from the shadows, offering an unlikely alliance with humankind – but it remains to be seen if the bond between Sid and Torii is strong enough to overcome any obstacles, and the journey will test the strength of that bond, along with having other drastic influences on the very order of the world itself.
The upcoming JRPG will also include an array of unique and diverse characters who will help the protagonists, Sid and Torii, in their quest to uncover the mysteries of Astella. These characters will have their own beliefs, motivations, and unique personalities, and the player will have the power to shape Sid’s personality, forge alliances, and influence the outcome of the game’s story through their choices and dialogue options. Players are advised to make wise decisions in order to fully experience Astella’s story and its many possibilities.
As players progress through the game, they will be delighted to discover the depth of the choices available to them, story and gameplay-wise. Story progression can unlock new game mechanics, such as the Chronus’ ability to manipulate time during combat, and Sid’s increased aptitude for wielding two weapons at once. Moreover, the game boasts six weapon types that can be individually upgraded, allowing for a much more diverse and challenging experience for those who seek it. With the ability to choose from different skills and utilize various combat styles, not to mention determining allied factions and endings, players have the chance to truly customize their Soul of Chronos gaming experience.
