After a competitive bidding war, Amazon Studios has secured Red Shirt starring Channing Tatum. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the deal sees key talent getting more than $50 million altogether–with Tatum securing a career-high $25 million for his performance.

The Hollywood Reporter calls the deal “one of the highest, if not the highest, in Hollywood dealmaking history for an original pitch.” Tatum, who will be working on spy thriller with writer-producer Simon Kinberg (The Martian, Logan) and director David Leitch (Deadpool 2), reportedly closed the deal on the Wednesday just before Thanksgiving.

Tatum also recently made waves with the first trailer for the third and final entry in his Magic Mike series, titled Magic Mike’s Last Dance. With this final installment, we see Tatum’s titular Mike finally in a relationship and taking the show overseas to London. The first Magic Mike hit theaters a decade ago and was loosely based on the experiences of Tatum, who actually was an 18-year-old male stripper in Tampa, Florida. The film proved to be a sleeper hit, earning over $167 million against a $7 million budget. The sequel, Magic Mike XXL was released three years later.

While this will be the end for Tatum’s Mike Lane character, director Steven Soderbergh had previously announced that there are additional installments being developed in the franchise for stories centered around other characters.

Magic Mike’s Last Dance hits theaters on February 10, 2023, with subsequent plans on streaming yet to be revealed.
