Capcom recently released a survey that asks fans about Resident Evil games they want to be remade. The survey doesn’t allude to any concrete future plans for the series, but is seemingly gauging interest for new remakes.
Most of the survey is focused on fans’ familiarity with the series, the various Resident Evil social media channels, and the official website. However, the last page of the survey asks users which Resident Evil games they want to be remade, with a text box that allows fans to type in whatever they’d like.
When it comes to developing a new remake, there’s a rich history of Resident Evil games that Capcom can refer to. Since the series’ inception in 1996, there have been dozens of installments released across multiple generations of systems.
Many fans want a Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake, which was originally released for the Sega Dreamcast in 2000. This game takes place shortly after the events of Resident Evil 2 and concurrent with Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. Some consider it to be the “real” Resident Evil 3, as it pushes the story forward arguably more than Nemesis did. Because of this, it’s treated as an important addition to the overall story, despite not being a numbered installment.
Capcom has garnered success with its recent Resident Evil remakes. In 2019, it released the Resident Evil 2 remake; in 2020, the Resident Evil 3 remake; and then earlier this year, it published the Resident Evil 4 remake. The company has yet to confirm what its plans are for the next installment, but Capcom will likely continue developing mainline entries–likely Resident Evil 9 next. It seems remakes are on the table, as well, but it’s unknown which one Capcom will choose.
