The Sims 4 has been the main supported Sims game for quite some time now releasing all the way back in 2014, seven years ago at the time of this writing. It’s often discounted because The Sims 4 has a ton of DLC to buy and at this point, EA kind of just wants to get you into the ecosystem and hope that you’ll end up having fun and buying the multitude of stuff packs and add-ons.
If you’re looking to buy The Sims 4 as close to free as you can, try and keep an eye on the Origin and Steam pages for the game. Not only do they often have sales, but it’s also the preferred way to play for most fans.
However, EA has just announced that The Sims 4 base game will be free-to-play for everyone, forever beginning Oct. 18, 2022. This includes the console versions of the game as well, and not just the PC version.
