Bumballon is a fast-paced retro-inspired action game that’s now available for iOS

Crescent Moon Games has announced the launch of Bumballon for iOS. Having previously released on PC and Nintendo Switch, this fast-paced adventure is now available on mobile and sees you guiding the titular character through seven different worlds as you try to save the Ballon Kingdom and Princess Moon.

Those seven worlds are split into 35 levels, with each promising new challenges and tricky enemies. You start each stage by firing Bumballon from a cannon before navigating through the rest of the level, where expert precision is the key to success. There are different mechanics to discover as you progress, some of which you can see in the trailer below.

As you can tell, Bumballon draws inspiration from retro-style games, something that’s fairly obvious when remembering the story revolves around saving a princess. Much like those older titles, the game wants to provide a challenge that belies its affable exterior. The developers say that each death serves as a lesson for how to overcome the obstacles that block your path to victory.

Aside from dodging obstacles and trying to save an entire kingdom, Bumballon also has enough time to hunt for lost relics. Evidently, saving the princess is a lower priority when the prospect of collecting shiny things arises. Anyway, after gathering these relics, you can exchange them for new skins to give the titular character a new look.

Bumballon first launched on Steam in 2021 and has received positive reviews from 31 users. That’s not a bad return for a nostalgia-infused indie game. Here’s hoping that it finds a bigger audience on mobile, though, where people can try it for free.

Bumballon is available now on the App Store as a free-to-play game with a single in-app purchase that removes ads for $3.99. You can download it for your iPhone or iPad using the link below. Alternatively, the game is also available on Nintendo Switch and Steam.
