Here’s a brief rundown on the game:

Labyrinth of Zangetsu

Labyrinth of Zangetsu is a new 3D dungeon RPG by Acquire and KaeruPanda. The game is a return to the roots of hack-and-slash dungeon RPGs, and emphasizes a feudal Japanese world via ink painting brush strokes where all color is lost due to the “Ink of Destruction” threat.

Labyrinth of Zangetsu is focused on four key categories:

  • Pursuit of the “origin” of hack-and-slash games.
  • Pursuit of the “Japanese” style that ACQUIRE is known for.
  • Pursuit of “depth” with ink brush strokes.
  • Pursuit of “Japanese mixed” sound with emphasis on Gagaku, Noh, and other Japanese music of various eras.

Labyrinth of Zangetsu is set in the city of Ido, “the city of the mouring moon,” which has been continuously battling a new foe: the “Ink of Destruction.” Ido resembles feudal Japan and is a large fortress city defended by powerful magic, below the moon that always appears in the sky.

Travellers from all over the world are summoned to Ido in the hopes of becoming the next “Ink Destroyers”, warriors with incredible power. The Ink Destroyers are then set out to the most dangerous area, where the Ink Beasts from the Ink of Destruction reside.

When living people are faced with the Ink of Destruction, some lost their sanity and eventually died – while others were transformed into demons and then attacked or devoured loved ones and neighbors. Even the dead can get resurrected when coming into contact with the ink, swelling the ranks of the monsters.

Even inanimate objects that come into contact with the ink can become dangerous, formidable monsters – the Ink Beasts, which are also feared by humans.
