Britain’s Got Talent’s grand finale aired on Sunday, June 4, with no clear front runner, leaving many stumped as to who could take home the title.

When it came down to the votes being announced by Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly, it came out that dancer Lilliana Clifton, magician Cillian O’Connor and comic Viggo Venn were in the top three.

Cillian, 14, was the first to be ruled out, coming in third place, before it was revealed Viggo had just pipped Lilliana to the post.

Clearly shocked and ecstatic, Viggo, 33, ripped off his shirt to reveal a hi-vis vest underneath and danced around the stage.

However, some members of the live audience weren’t exactly thrilled by this year’s champion.

Shortly after it was revealed Viggo would be taking home the £250,000 grand prize and a spot at the Royal Variety Performance, boos were heard coming from those watching live.

But the disappointment wasn’t just felt in the studio as fans took to Twitter to share their views as well.

One viewer tweeted: “Did you hear them boo’s on @BGT? Quite right too, ridiculous.

“So much more talent in that final tonight. #BGT2023 should not have made the live shows. Poor winner.”

“Is Veggo Venn the worst Britain’s got talent winner EVER??? LIKE WHERES THE TALENT”, another commented. 

Someone else angrily posted: “NEVER EVER EVER EVER watching @BGT #BritainsGotTalent again. absolute shambles – a guy running about in a high vis vest over so much proper genuine real talent?

“The boos in that audience, shocked faces and genuine tears said it all for me – SHAMBLES.”

A fellow BGT fan labelled it as a “scandal”, while a third added: “By a stretch, that is the worst Britain’s Got Talent result EVER.

“If that really is genuine, then the British voting public should be ashamed and embarrassed.”

Many were surprised that inspirational dancer Musa Motha, whose leg was amputated when he was 11, didn’t make it to the top three.

There was also confusion when the Ghetto Kids didn’t get any further in the competition either or young opera singer Malakai Bayoh.

But as the official winner, Viggo will be taking centre stage once again for the Royal Variety Performance which is going to take place at the Royal Albert Hall and airing later this year.
