Ah, the “losing leadership of NDP’s Andrea Horwath.”

That was the headline on my column last Thursday, all which prompted reader Don White to write the following.

It’s a gem.

“If you figure out why Dippers support Andrea Horwath, you may be able to figure out why Canadians voted for Trudeau, why conservatives thought a Liberal-lite campaign by Erin O’Toole would work, why Americans voted for a guy with dementia, why the Twitter-verse is going nuts about Trump probably being allowed to return, and why World Economic Forum supporters think food shortages, poverty, high unemployment, and mass starvation are good things.

“Heck,’ he adds, “you may also be able to answer the all-time questions, ‘why are we here?’” and, “are we alone in the universe?”

Other readers gave their two cent’s worth, but none had a glowing report about Horwath’s leadership.

And this came before the Toronto Sun’s Brian Lilley broke the story about Horwath charging her party $43,585 for high-end clothing.

Reader Mike Mays weighed in with “She must have heard about her nickname, Angria (sic). It’s her inappropriate laughing and her phony pasted-on smile.”

Vivienne Edwards wrote this: “Horwath is past her best-before date as leader of a party. She has reduced her presence in the legislature to being negative, accusatory and loudmouthed without offering a positive well-thought-out rebuttal for all she finds her opponents are doing wrong.”

Kris Kennedy pulled no punches: “Howarth should’ve been tossed overboard after the last election. The only reason I can find for keeping this woman as the NDP leader is because no one else really wants the job, or at least not badly enough to make a play for it in a big way. They will likely never form a government, so what motive is there to seek it out?”

Paul Fortier figured, “This is great news for the people of Ontario! No chance of repeating Rae Days! She should just bow out now to save time and money and to be prepared to be replaced by her handlers. Next step is to rid Ontario of the liberal ilk of Del Duca, so there’s no chance of sending the province back into the dark times of McGuinty/Wynne!”

Chris Glachan wrote: “The lack of support for the NDP under Horwath comes as no surprise. What is worrisome is that the Liberals under Del Ducky (sic) have any support at all. Then again, you can’t put any stock in polls.”

We apologize, but this video has failed to load.

Ken Bailey said: “All the provincial leaders are a joke, quite frankly, but Horvath seems like such a nasty person. Not positive at all. Never offers any ideas. Always playing politics. (All politicians do this, but she takes it to the extreme). I would leave the province if she were ever elected.”

John G. Studebaker wrote:  “Bottom line, Doug Ford and his party are in a comfortable lead, Ford is warmer and more relatable than either of his opponents, and he must continue to demonstrate that he has evolved into a more pragmatic and less dogmatic leader.”

And from Donald McLevin: “Bono seems to have a great disdain for democracy. If everybody took their marbles home every time they lost a game, then (democracy) wouldn’t work.”

The last word, however, goes to Ted Greenfield

“Mark,” says he. “Shusssssssssssssss, she is doing just great.”
