Blizzard Confirms DDoS Attack On Overwatch 2 Servers

After long anticipation, Overwatch 2 was officially launched over 12 hours ago, but the game’s servers became a target of DDoS attacks soon after release, which prevented players across the world from joining the servers on October 4.

As confirmed by a Blizzard developer, two DDoS attacks have already targeted the Overwatch 2 servers, and the developers are working hard to wipe out the issues and make the servers available for players again. The last update on the issue was shared over 5 hours before the time of writing this article, through which Blizzard’s Aaron Keller confirmed a second DDoS attack and ensured players that the support team will continue investigating the issue all night until getting servers back to their normal status.

In addition to this, a Known Issues page has also been created for Overwatch 2 on Blizzard, which shares the identified and resolved problems of the game with players. You can take a look at the page here, but if you can’t find the issue you are facing among the identified problems, make sure to report it to the Blizzard support team.

Unlike its predecessor, Overwatch 2 is a free-to-play experience, and it was expected that a lot of players would join the servers at launch which could cause long queues and possible server issues, however, the aforementioned DDoS attacks made things even worse for players as some PC users couldn’t even connect to the game’s servers for several hours after launch.

An update is supposed to be shared by the Blizzard developers once the issue has been fully resolved. If you have not downloaded the game yet, we suggest you wait until the servers are fully available again, as you will probably face server errors after launching the game for now. Similar to the original game, the PC version of Overwatch 2 is exclusive to Blizzard’s BattleNet launcher.

Regarding the fact that Blizzard shut down the original Overwatch servers a day earlier, fans of the series can now do nothing but wait for the sequel’s servers to come back online again.
