A tactical RPG Blade Prince Academy will be heading to Steam in Spring 2024.
A new trailer has been released for Blade Prince Academy, a tactical RPG from French publisher Firesquid. The game offers real-time combat with the unique ability to pause and strategise by directing each unit individually. The trailer reveals an enchanting fantasy realm, brought to life with stylish anime visuals. The trailer also introduces three primary characters Phoebos, O’ren, and Diamante, all of whom players will have the opportunity to control.
Dubbed “The Wonder Child” in the trailer, Phoebus is distinguished by his striking spiky blue hair and twin golden horns. The footage frequently features him executing a series of fiery dash assaults, and he appears to be adept with a blade as well, unleashing a powerful AOE strike against enemies.
Playing in a team in Blade Prince Academy, players will have a few different characters to strategies with. First, O’ren, characterized as a humanoid canine, is aptly named “The Deadly Sniper” for his proficiency in long-range combat. The trailer depicts him discharging rounds from his rifle and hurling grenades. Additionally, he demonstrates precision by targeting a cluster of barrels, resulting in an explosion that releases a green haze.
In the final reveal, Diamante, known as “The Elemental Mage,” is portrayed with blue skin and white hair. The trailer primarily shows her wielding ice-based abilities, designed for both inflicting damage and managing groups of enemies. However, her moniker suggests that she may also have the capacity to conjure spells from various other elements.
The publisher’s announcement reveals that the trio, known collectively as the Blade Princes, will be tasked with protecting the mythical city of Abjectalia. These characters can also combine their strengths to unleash powerful combo attacks. Beyond the tactical combat, the game also emphasises the importance of working on interpersonal relationships among the characters to triumph in missions and carefully progressing through each character’s talent tree for strategic development. This aspect gives some Fire Emblem: Three Houses vibes.
Blade Prince Academy will be the first project for studio Angel Corp, and they’ve definitely picked a vibrant game to debut with. The game was successfully funded through Kickstarter with an initial goal of €42,654 (around $46,000 USD). This managed to unlock a stretch goal of a new hero. The campaign finished in June earlier this year and the public playtest took place earlier this December.
Publisher Firesquid on the other hand are already familiar with tactical sci-fi titles such as the military game USC: Counterforce. They’ve also published the fantasy title Great Houses of Calderia.
Blade Prince Academy will be heading PC as a Steam exclusive in Spring 2024.
