Black Myth: Wukong Launches Summer 2024

In celebration of the forthcoming Lunar New Year, Chinese developer Game Science has announced that the studio’s upcoming souls-like role-playing game Black Myth: Wukong will release in the summer of 2024. Only a PC release has been confirmed so far.

The teaser film, viewable below, only gives the aforementioned broad release window. Players have been eager to find out when the game is coming out since the gameplay trailer was released last August. Although the public got a taste of Black Myth: Wukong via cutscenes and gameplay, the studio only gave the briefest of snippets of the game’s world, combat, and inspiration.

Including plenty of references from the original The Journey to the West novels, Black Myth: Wukong is a souls-like RPG developed by Chinese indie studio Game Science using Unreal Engine 5. This elusive RPG was first announced via alpha gameplay footage back in 2020. Afterwards, a short trailer giving an insight into bosses, enemies, and spells was shared in early 2021. A gameplay snippet was shared last year.

According to the game’s official website, Black Myth: Wukong is the studio’s first attempt to build an Eastern fantasy world revolving around an immersive storyline. Game Science plans to bring their game to PC and main-stream consoles, with the possibility of cloud gaming platforms under consideration. It’s also worth noting that the game will support Ray Tracing & DLSS 3 at launch.

Despite showing off the studio’s work, players are concerned that Game Science may not have been able to deliver on promises. As this ambitious title is being developed by an indie studio without a reliable publisher, questions are being asked of the viability of Black Myth: Wukong. The plan is for Summer 2024, let’s see how it plays out.
