BG3 player discovers rare dialogue between Astarion and Shadowheart

You may think that you’ve seen every part of Baldur’s Gate 3, but you’re wrong. One BG3 player on Reddit shared a discovery of rare dialogue between Astarion and Shadowheart.

Although this is at the very beginning of the game, I’ve yet to see anyone talk about this happening until now. Larian Studios really thought of everything.

Rare dialogue happens in BG3 if you wake Shadowheart as Astarion

Discovered recently by the user “Luna-298” on the BG3 subreddit, a rare dialogue exchange happens between Astarion and Shadowheart in Act 1. This all depends on who you wake her up as on the beach after the nautiloid ship crash.

This player revealed how they decided to get Astarion first, then woke Shadowheart on the beach while controlling Astarion instead of Tav. If you attempt to convince Shadowheart to join the party as Astarion, she’ll actually tell him this: “You’re not the one to talk to, are you? Not really. I can feel it in your head. You’re following someone else’s orders. I’ll deal with them, not you”

Although Larian Studios could’ve easily just had Shadowheart accept being apart of the group, it decided to be even more unique with your choices. Shadowheart already senses that Astarion isn’t the leader of the group, which is hilarious.

If you answer “What now?” as Astarion, Shadowheart will simply decline joining the party altogether and tell him they’ll perhaps cross paths again later. This is such an interesting detail, I’m now wondering if this works the same with other companions.

What if you’re controlling Shadowheart and interact with Astarion first? Or what if you try to pull Gale free from the portal as Astarion? Replies in the comments are wondering the same thing. The user themselves actually made a reply saying that doing the same with Lae’zel ends similarly. Lae’zel will tell Astarion (or whoever is in control besides Tav) that they don’t have the authority, and to defer to the leader.

Now I truly think there is still hidden dialogue somewhere in the game that players have yet to discover. Speaking of discoveries, players in the same subreddit have figured out that Scratch is the best summon in Baldur’s Gate 3.
