Beyond Paradise’s Humphrey and Martha ‘split’ as star addresses future | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Beyond Paradise couple, Humphrey Goodman (played by Kris Marshall) and Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton) haven’t had an easy time following their move to Shipton Abbott. It was meant to be an exciting time for the pair as they embarked on their new life together. However, the detective and restaurant owner were hit by tragedy when Martha suffered a miscarriage.

Things were also made worse when an old flame of Martha’s returned to the town.

Humphrey is wary of his love’s ex, Archie Hughes (Jamie Bamber), who has also invested in Martha’s new restaurant as a silent partner.

However, speaking exclusively to Express and other press, the actress who plays Martha teases what’s in store for her character.

“Yeah, well, obviously you can see from the first episode that they have been through a journey with IVF and we don’t really go on that process with them,” the actress began.

“But as Tim [Key] said, it’s more about what that means later and whether they will continue on that journey and how families look.”

When chatting about whether Martha’s head will be turned by Archie, Sally continued: “I just think whenever you move back home when you’ve lived away for a while back to the place where you grew up, there are always a few randoms lurking.

“So yeah, we have a look at that.”

Kris also admitted when he was asked to take part in Beyond Paradise, he wasn’t sure it would work.

However, he jumped at the chance to see how Humphrey and Martha’s love story played out.

“When Tony [Jordan] first sent me the first script, I thought, ‘that’s all very well, but if you’re going to make the same show and put it in the UK, that’s not necessarily going to work, or it might work but it might be a bit lazy.’

“So it has to be really different, and then when I read the first script, I was like, ‘Wow, this is different.’

“It’s completely different and it shares the same DNA [as Death in Paradise] but it’s entirely unique.

“And I just love the thought of what happens to them, what’s their reality after that happy ever after?”

In the latest episode of Beyond Paradise, fans were thrilled to see the return of a beloved character.

Selwyn Patterson from Death in Paradise was featured in the programme as a duck.

Humphrey decided to name the duck after the Commissioner because he “missed” him.
