Bethesda Announces New Rogue-Lite Mobile Game Mighty DOOM

The top-down shooter launches next month.

Bethesda has placed our beloved Doom Guy in an unusually cartoony setting with the newly revealed top-down shooter for mobile, Mighty DOOM. It’s not exactly the Slayer we’ve known throughout the years, but instead the so-called Mini Slayer, who’s the protagonist of what the trailer refers to be the “Animated Doom Universe.”

The premise is that an “unknown energy surge” strikes a toy company, which is where Mini Slayer comes to life and is transported to an alternate dimension. As seen in the trailer below, the game will have a much more silly and caricature-like art style, and though it seemingly won’t be as gory as the new duo of Doom titles, it doesn’t look to shy away from blood either. Mighty DOOM launches March 21 for Google Play and the Apple App Store.

Mighty DOOM is a top-down rogue-lite shooter, which will have the player swaying around enemy attacks while trying to hit them with as many bullets as possible. Bethesda’s announcement tweet described it as a “single-touch” mobile shooter, though it’s unclear exactly what that refers to in terms of control.

The game will feature multiple guns, gear, and skills that the player can choose from to create their preferred loadout before the rogue-like runs. The runs will have players use their loadout to fight through stage after stage of treacherous demons, as well as the occasional boss battle.

Mighty DOOM is being developed by Alpha Dog Games, and it’s the team’s debut within the Bethesda family, as the studio was purchased by Bethesda back in 2019. Furthermore, it’s the team’s debut within the Microsoft family, which later purchased Bethesda in 2021. It’s no doubt a big role to fill, to develop a title for one of the most iconic and influential franchises of all time, even if it’s a mobile game.

Luckily, we won’t have to wait long to see how Alpha Dog Games fares and how the Doom franchise will fare in the mobile space. No information has been relayed regarding price, so Mighty DOOM will presumably be free-to-play with some form of micro-transaction structure.
