So it does not matter what you think about Islands of Insight because that game just launched. Do you know how long that game has been on our list? It didn’t have to be. It launched. No malingering in perpetual testing, just straight to launch. Power-sliding straight into having a launch date. That’s gutsy. That’s real. I like that.
Do you see what that was like, Skull & Bones? You just lost your defense about this being really hard. You’re launched too, now. I don’t care if you want to call it a soft launch; I’m tired of thinking about you. Let that be a lesson to the rest of you non-sentient entries in a list who have no idea what I’m talking about. We consider an MMO to be in open testing if it features free, public signups and will server wipe prior to launch. An MMO is marked in closed testing if it’s running a private test phase that cannot freely be accessed by the general public; it’s often under NDA as well. Early access and crowdfunded MMOs whose tests we deem legitimate will be included. So-called “open beta” soft-launch MMOs with cash shops, no sign of launch in the west, or limited interest for our readers will not be listed, nor will games that are NFT/blockchain scams; we also do not list expansions, with occasional exceptions. Finally, we’ll mark games “malingering” if they’ve been in a certain tier of development for a long time with no clear path to launch.
