In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll rely on a lot of blades, spears, and axes as you defeat the various monsters you encounter. However, sometimes you need to attack from a distance. You pull out your bow and realize to your horror you have no arrows left. Such moments are well worth avoiding, so this guide covers the best ways to get arrows in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Tears of the Kingdom – best ways to get Arrows

Arrow shortages go back all the way to The Legend of Zelda on the NES, when each shot fired from your bow required a single rupee. Unfortunately, the new requirements are even worse.

The best way to get arrows is to buy them at shops or trick enemies into wasting their supply. You can also find them in treasure chests and smashed crates on occasion, but not reliably.

Vendors carry a limited but convenient supply of arrows. If I have plans to go exploring, I like to start by replenishing my supply with the nearest merchant. The most convenient shopkeeper is Mubs at Lookout Landing. You can visit her shop and purchase five bundles of five arrows for 20 rupees per bundle. That works out to 25 arrows for 100 rupees. Your purchase exhausts her supply, but then you can fast travel to another village to buy more. Most shops in Hyrule stock arrows, including the ones in Kakariko Village, Hateno Village, Goron City, and Rito Village. You can even purchase them once you find and infiltrate the Yiga Clan Hideout. At that location, you can buy 10 at a time for 35 rupees, which is a better deal than usual.

Monsters have no apparent shortage of arrows, but you can only get a few from any one of them. Sometimes, I’ve killed a monster and it dropped a bundle of them when defeated. However, that’s not common. A better approach is to play around the edges of a weak enemy encampment. Kill the guards on the ground but leave their lookout in one piece. That foe will fire arrows your way. Weave back and forth near a tree or wall, so the shots miss and fall nearby. Pick them up and keep moving. You can snag as many as five of them before the game stops letting you retrieve them. I do this with weaker enemies so I don’t have to risk getting hit with an elemental attack that drains too much of my life if I don’t dodge quickly enough.

Finally, make sure to pick up your own arrows if you battle some enemies in an arena or cave. If you’re like me, a few of your shots will miss. They’ll hit the ground or a wall, and then you can gather them again. After fighting a major enemy, take a moment to pick up any arrows you misfired. You’ll have a use for them down the line.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available for purchase from the Nintendo Store.
