There are thousands of movies out there, but there are some that we just keep coming back to, time and time again. Whether you’re a movie person or not, you are sure to have heard of at least one of these films. From old to new, today we have compiled a list of some of the best movies of all time (in our opinion). The Dark Knight

When it comes to superhero movies, “The Dark Knight” is sure to be one of the best movies of all time. Sequel to the movie “Batman Begins”, Bruce Wayne finds himself up against his toughest opponent yet, the joker. The joker is a mysterious criminal mastermind. No one knows his real name or where he’s from, although one thing is for sure, he’s a psychopath. Batman finds his morals being tested in wicked ways, forced into crazy ultimatums with no limits. The dark knight sets a very different tone in comparison to generic superhero movies with its dark feel and realism. Another thing that makes the dark knight so great is the casting, many consider Heath Ledger’s joker to be one of the best performances in cinema history. His tragic passing before the release of the movie only made his performance more legendary.

Saving Private Ryan

You’ve without a doubt heard of the movie “Saving Private Ryan”, whether you’ve watched it or not is the real question. The story follows Captain John Miller (Tom Hanks) and his men on a courageous mission behind enemy lines to rescue Private James Ryan (Matt Damon), a missing paratrooper who’s 3 brothers have already died in combat. Straight off the bat, the opening to the movie has the viewer hooked with a gut-wrenching scene re-enacting the Normandy Invasion. The movie delivers a tragically realistic take on the brutality of war near the front lines. When it comes to war films, “Saving Private Ryan” is without question one of the best movies of all time.

No Country for Old Men

Hunter Llewelyn Moss finds himself stumbling across a drug deal gone wrong in the middle of the desert with no survivors. He finds a briefcase with 2 million dollars inside it, although, as time goes on this proves to be more of a curse than a blessing. Anton Chigurh, a ruthless hitman with strange morals and a mysterious background is hired to retrieve the money with the help of a tracking device hidden inside the briefcase. Overall, the movie has brilliant pacing, sometimes shown from the perspective of Sheriff Ed Tom Bell. The sheriff tries his best to keep up with two during their murderous cat and mouse chase, he cautiously follows a trail of evidence yet ultimately decides he is way in over his head.  The film also doesn’t feature any music which gives the film a very raw, immersive feel. No country for old men is a film that you can watch repeatedly, and it just keeps getting better. It’s no surprise that some people would name it as one of the best movies of all time.

Reservoir Dogs

If you’re a fan of Quentin Tarantino films, then this one’s for you. Reservoir Dogs tells the story of a jewellery heist gone wrong in a very unorthodox fashion, jumping between the past and the present. Six hardened criminals with no prior knowledge of each other are hired for the heist and given made-up names to avoid anyone giving information to the authorities if the heist went wrong. When the group is ambushed by the police, they conclude that one of the six members has been working with the authorities and set out to find out who. “Reservoir Dogs,” tells a very short story in great detail. Despite being criminals, each member of the crew has contrasting morals which make each and every interaction between them very interesting. Reservoir dogs is one of those movies where you just can’t take your eyes off the screen, every line of dialogue is golden.

The Interview

Now, it could be a little controversial to call The Interview one of the best movies of all time. Although, we feel that it deserves a place on the list. The movie stars Seth Rogan and James Franco as two TV show hosts who interview celebrities. When it comes to light that the infamous dictator “Kim Jong Un” is a fan of the show, US intelligence requests that they poison the North Korean leader to avoid nuclear conflict. The initial release of the movie was highly controversial due to the real Kim Jong Un expressing his take on the film, deeming it a blatant “act of war”. Although if you are not from North Korea, this film Is nothing short of hilarious. The chemistry between James Franco and Seth Rogan is unmatched in this comedy movie. “The Interview” is filled to the brim with moments that will have you falling out of your chair with laughter, there’s even a cameo from rapper “Eminem”. Despite the controversial script, the movie is very light-hearted. There’s a brilliant ending that you just can’t miss.
