Dead by Daylight developer Behaviour Interactive has announced another round of layoffs. The developer was already one of several gaming companies to have been hit with layoffs this year, having cut 45 jobs in January, and has now announced that it’s cutting another 95 jobs, of which 70 will be in its Montreal studio.
The company says it is looking to “renew its focus on its historical strengths” with these changes, and says they are necessitated by “unprecedented competition” in the industry, in spite of the success that Behaviour has enjoyed with Dead by Daylight and with external partnerships.
“To pursue this clarified vision, Behaviour will implement multiple strategic changes to its corporate structure, improving the distinction between its product, production, business development, and marketing resources,” the company says. “As a result of these changes, the Company will reduce its team by up to 95 employees, 70 of whom are based in Montreal. Each of these individuals offered valuable contributions to Behaviour, and will be fully supported by the organization in pursuing the next step in their careers.”
“I would like to express my deep personal appreciation for any employee affected by today’s changes,” says co-founder and CEO Rémi Racine. “While changes to our structure and strategic vision have led to challenging decisions, we are confident that these decisions will position us for continued success. As we begin the next phase of Behaviour’s growth, our commitment to excellence in our products and workplace culture remains steadfast.”
In addition to ongoing support for Dead by Daylight, Behaviour Interactive is also working with external partners that are developing spinoffs set in the multiplayer horror game’s universe, namely Supermassive Game’s The Casting of Frank Stone and Midwinter Entertainment’s Project T.
