Barbra Streisand criticised for asking Melissa McCarthy if she’s on Ozempic

Barbra Streisand has been widely criticised on social media for asking Melissa McCarthy if she had taken weight loss drug Ozempic.

McCarthy had shared a photo of herself with her friend Adam Shankman on her Instagram in which it appeared she had lost some weight.

“Pastels only to honor the incredible @matthewbourne13 at the @ctgla gala last night with this fella @adamshankman !!” she wrote in the caption. “Thiiiiis much closer to my dream of dancing on stage.”

Streisand then asked in the comments, “Give him my regards, did you take Ozempic?”

Social media users were quick to rebuke Streisand. “Babs. No, honey. Just no,” one user commented.

“Barbara, if you don’t have something nice to say….,” another added.

Others tried to suggest that it didn’t matter how McCarthy lost weight. Another Instagram user said: “Who cares how someone loses?? As long as they get healthier. Everyone tearing her down really needs to get some therapy.”

Streisand’s comment has since been deleted.

Meanwhile, in February, McCarthy asked Billie Eilish to sign her forehead on stage at the Screen Actors Guild Awards while they were presenting an award together.

“I thought you were going to be like ‘I don’t wanna ruin your pretty face!’” McCarthy joked as Eilish uncapped the pen.

As Eilish started writing on her forehead, McCarthy asked: “So when you and Finneas are laying down sick tracks and hot beats and…” but was cut off by Eilish putting her hand over McCarthy’s mouth.

Last month, an awards ceremony set to honour Elon Musk and Rupert Murdoch among others was cancelled, following complaints from high-profile figures, including Streisand.

It was announced on March 13 that this year’s honourees for the Opperman Foundation’s Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Leadership Award included Musk, Murdoch, Martha Stewart, Sylvester Stallone and Michael Milken.

The inclusion of the Tesla founder and the former FOX news CEO sparked backlash from members of the Ginsburg family. Streisand offered her support, writing: “Justices Ginsburg and Sotomayor stand as two of the most respected women role models, and their commitment to democratic values, especially women’s rights, is unequaled.

She continued: “That’s why I join the Ginsburg family in condemning the choice of honourees this year. I had the privilege of meeting Justice Ginsburg on several occasions, and I strongly doubt she would approve of these awardees.”
