As spotted by PC Gamer, Larian Studios recently shared a new development update on Steam, revealing that Patch 9 will be coming to Baldur’s Gate 3 next month, and along with it, the developer is supposed to share more details on the game’s release date in 2023.

Since its Early Access launch back in 2020, Baldur’s Gate 3 has received some important updates in the last two years, but this entire period only the first act of the game was playable. Today, Larian announced that Act 2 and Act 3 are being playtested so that the studio can ensure they will be as polished as Act 1 when the full version of the game launches.

Despite the fact that Act 1 has been around for two years and players have probably explored it enough, Larian claims that the first Act will still get new features at the official launch to make it a fresh experience even for those with hundreds of hours of playtime already.

While the developer didn’t reveal what new features we should expect for the Early Access version with Patch 9, it did share some new behind-the-scenes images from the motion capture process and the new dedicated studio for this in the UK that is capable of capturing up to 12 mo-cap performance simultaneously. This will significantly tweak the studio’s ability to make Baldur’s Gate 3 a worthy cinematic experience.

Despite being in Early Access, Baldur’s Gate 3 still costs $59.99, as the developer doesn’t want to increase the price after the full launch. So, if you want to give it a whirl before the official launch, and get familiar with the gameplay mechanics if you are new to Baldur’s Gate series, it probably wouldn’t make a difference to buy it now rather than on the launch day.

Larian Studios already delivered the critically acclaimed sequel to Divinity: Original Sin 2, and fans have high hopes for Baldur’s Gate 3 now. Similar to the studio’s previous titles, it will only be coming to PC, self-published by Larian itself. For now, there is no clue on the possibility of a day-one PC Game Pass launch.
