Baldur’s Gate 3 Act 3 was slow due to theft and violence you performed

If you were playing Baldur’s Gate 3 during Act 3 and realized it was running pretty slow, it was apparently due to the theft and violence you performed earlier in the game.

In a Patch 5 fix caused by Patch 4, Larian Studios explained in a hilarious statement how it fixed an issue where your thievery in Moonrise Towers was slowing down the game.

Larian Studios explains how your thieving in Act 2 led to game-running consequences all the way to Act 3

In a Reddit post that has garnered over 14,000 upvotes, one user clipped a statement from Larian Studios towards IGN. It turns out that Act 3 of Baldur’s Gate 3 was slow for many players due to the theft and violence you performed back in Act 2.

In Patch 4, Larian Studios implemented a fix to prevent the Scrying Eyes in Moonrise Towers from immediately calling the guards when they noticed you stealing, even if you were invisible or sneaking. Somehow, this fix had accidentally caused unnoticed acts of theft to remain forever stuck within a ‘did anyone see me’ pipeline.Instead of moving on and timing out, these eternally-active acts of theft and violence would slow down the game by Act 3.

Luckily, the developer caught this issue, and in a statement to IGN it tried to justify the reasoning behind this issue with a real-life scenario. Essentially, your Dungeon Master constantly thinks about your terrible acts of theft and vandalism as the player keeps going, without ever verbalizing them or moving on from it. Your DM is mulling on it ad infinitum.

Larian Studios consistently has jokes and funny quips within Baldur’s Gate 3’s patch notes. It makes them a lot more enjoyable to read, so it’s even funnier to see them issue an entire statement like this to news outlets. Not only is it hilarious, but it’s down-to-earth and transparent. The replies of the Reddit post really show that while players could’ve felt sour about the accident, the light-hearted reaction from Larian Studios makes this hiccup feel like water under the bridge.
