Atlas Wept a retro-style RPG that blends turn-based combat with bullet hell action, being developed by Kbojisoft coming to PC via Steam on January 17th 2024. The game is about a journey of self-exploration following characters with their own individual set of quests and stories.
On a far-off world shrouded in enigmatic secrets, two bands of lost children set off on perilous quests. Lead characters Dezi and Charlie find themselves getting closer to the source of a sinister force that erases personalities. At the same time Hal and Lucy unravel the truth behind the existence of Gigi, the Robot Dog. These two stories run across twelve chapters, weaving together the narrative strands that connect them to the emergence of the malevolent Grins.
Discovering the Atlas
Witness the unfolding events among the diverse group of heroes as they endure trials through the innocent eyes of children, observing and learning to challenge the world’s harsh realities. Watch the growth of the main characters as they depend on each other to overcome challenges, gain wisdom, and learn about compassion and sincerity along the way.
Travel to vibrant locations around the world, including subterranean temples, mossy caverns, deserted train stations, towering mountains blanketed in snow, and even an enormous landfill which is an unusual setting to say the least. I wonder if players will be unearthing treasures amongst the rubbish, as one man’s trash and all…
The “Grins” are Unusually Smiley
A creepy presence seems to pop up in the game called the Grins. These beings possess eerie looking smiles reminiscent of the Cheshire Cat , but mask a “dark truth” behind them. Enjoy witty dialogue, solve intriguing puzzles, and participate in engaging and user-friendly action mini-games during battle encounters.
Developer Kbojisoft defines the game as a mix of traditional RPG charm with the thrill of action orientated mini-games. Take direct control to evade enemy attack patterns, reminiscent of bullet hell sequences that vary with each adversary. Inflict sufficient damage to stun enemies, providing characters with a few vital turns to unleash substantial damage. Utilize the Stamp Book to modify stats and tailor the party’s abilities to your liking.
Atlas Wept is both a love letter to classic RPGs and an exploration of a story and characters I’ve had on my mind for years. My goal was to create an empathy-driven narrative that serves as a look at humanity and the spectrum of emotions enveloped in it, all within an entertaining package!

The trailer has an unnerving feel to it as the narrator tries to dissuade you from embarking on the journey. The monologue has a sense of menace to it, despite saying they will make you “happy”. But the clues of what kind of game this will be are from its key inspirations Mother and Undertale. It’s intriguingly creepy, hopefully answering questions about the Grins’ presence, seriously what do they want?
Atlas Wept will be coming to PC via Steam on January 17th 2024 for a great price of $7.99 USD.
