The first Atelier Ryza game will be receiving a TV anime adaptation, Crunchyroll announced on Sunday. With a trailer streamed as part of the Atelier 25th Anniversary Program #5, it was confirmed that the series is set to premiere as part of the summer 2023 anime season.

Gust and Koei Tecmo’s alchemy-focused Atelier RPG franchise has been running ever since 1997, when Atelier Marie launched on the original PlayStation in Japan. That first game, which never released outside of Japan, is set to get a worldwide remake soon. Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout, the 21st entry in the franchise and the first of Ryza’s ongoing arc in the Atelier games, released in the fall of 2019. Ryza would receive a sequel released in English in January 2021 titled Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy.

This newly announced anime project is set to adapt the first Ryza game. The posted teaser trailer shows off Ryza, as well as her friends Lent and Tao, and also indicates the summer 2023 release date. Aniplex also posted a short interview with actress Yuri Noguchi, who played Ryza in the games and will be returning to voice her in the anime adaptation.

Other voice actors from the game were also confirmed to be returning for the anime. These include Hitomi Owada as Klaudia, Takuma Terashima as Lent, Yui Kondo as Tao, Hirofumi Nojima as Empel, and Haruka Terui as Lila. The series will be produced by studio Liden Films, to be directed by Emma Yuzuriha. Yashichiro Takahashi, who wrote for the game, will be returning to compose the story for the anime series, with Tomoyuki Shitaya adapting Toridamono character designs. Perhaps most integrally, regular Atelier series composer Kazuki Yanagawa will be coming in to provide music for the series.

This anime is not the only upcoming release for Ryza. The third game in her series, Atelier Ryza: Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key, is set to launch very soon, on March 24. The game was originally scheduled for a February 22 launch, but was delayed.
