Among Us Developers Planning A New Map For Release This Year

Additional roles are a possibility for 2023 as well.

Among Us players will have access to a fifth map sometime this year if publisher/developer Innersloth is able to deliver on all the plans laid out in its recently released 2023 Roadmap. The roadmap was originally released on Thursday after a slight two-day delay due to the author’s admitted forgetfulness.

“We put a TON of love into our design process for these maps – you’ll notice that all our maps often have tinyyy details in them to make them feel satisfying and fun to play, if you take a look around,” the roadmap states. No details on the fifth map’s nature or aesthetics have been released yet, although the developer is promising it will come packed with surprises, including never-before-seen tasks and cosmetics. The roadmap does not specify a release date for the new map either, simply stating that we can expect it “later in the year.”

Another feature that could possibly be coming is the addition of more roles. In addition to the classic Crewmate and Imposter roles introduced at the game’s launch, roles have been expanded to include Scientist, Engineer, Guardian Angel, and Shapeshifter, each with its own unique set of skills and powers. “We have a lot of other ideas up in our brain space, and hope we can share that with you at some point!” the roadmap states, although its author stresses that any new roles will only be added if the developers have extra time to implement them.

In addition to the currently unnamed Map 5, Innersloth also has plans for some quality of life updates to its smash-success indie title, including upgrades to its matchmaking system. After first announcing Hide n Seek Mode at The Game Awards in early December, the roadmap’s author admits that the game’s variety of customization options has made it harder for players to find the exact types of matches they’d like to play, and that’s something Innersloth will be focussing on to help players get “closer to the type of spacebean experience you want.”

Other things discussed in the roadmap are improvements to quickchat, allowing players to more effectively plead their innocence to the crew, and collaborations, although the report is devoid of details on any collaborative projects coming this year.
