It would appear that the metaphorical cat is out of the bag regarding the AMD Radeon 6700 non-XT graphics card. Following a leak earlier today, Sapphire decided to officially list its latest model using the RDNA 2 architecture.
This non-XT variant, which also oddly lacks the “RX” branding, will slot in somewhere between the existing 6650 XT and the 6700 XT in AMD’s current graphics card lineup. Oddly enough, AMD itself has yet to officially announce this model. There’s also no word on pricing.
Radeon 6700 specs
We also have some official specs that reaffirm the expected gaming performance suggested by the name of the card. According to Sapphire’s listing, the Radeon 6700 will feature boost clock speeds up to 2495 MHz, game clock speeds up to 2230 MHz, 2304 Streaming Processors, 10 GB of 16Gbps GDDR6 VRAM, 36 ray accelerators, and this model will use 220W of power.
Reference the 6650 XT and the 6700 XT, and you’ll see these specs put the 6700 roughly in the middle. That would make this card a respectable gaming option for the right price. Gamers can expect a high refresh 1080p experience, some extra headroom for smooth 60 fps 1440p gaming, and limited success at playing games in 4K. However, those results could certainly be bolstered in games supporting FSR 1.0 and 2.0 or via Radeon Super Resolution.
Given the current downward momentum of pricing, the 6700 will certainly need a more realistic price than what AMD pulled with the 6X50 XT refresh. As for when the Radeon 6700 graphics card might launch, AMD has a Financial Analyst Day scheduled for June 9. That seems like an appropriate date considering Sapphire’s decision to reveal its models early.
As to whether you should consider even buying the 6700, that will depend on timing. AMD’s Radeon 7000 Series is expected to launch as early as September, and other reports suggest Nvidia will launch its GeForce RTX 4000 Series as early as this summer. The value proposition could be significantly better for those that are able to hold out.
