Quick Links
Ever since its release in 2016, Pokemon GO has been a huge success. One thing that all seasoned trainers know is that some Pokemon are found only in certain regions, and the ones found in this game are no exception.
Throughout your time exploring, you may notice that some Pokemon just aren’t available around you. Chances are, if you’re having trouble finding a Pokemon, it’s a region exclusive.

Vivillon
In December 2022, Niantic announced that Vivillon would come to Pokemon GO. There are eighteen patterns of Vivillon total. The only way to get this Pokemon is by collecting and pinning Postcards from different regions around the world. You need to pin three Postcards from one region to get the Vivillon that lives there. Here are the eighteen different pattern locations:
- Archipelago
- Continental
- Elegant
- Garden
- High Plains
- Icy Snow
- Jungle
- Marine
- Meadow
- Modern
- Monsoon
- Ocean
- Polar
- River
- Sandstorm
- Savanna
- Sun
- Tundra
Trainers who acquire all Vivillon patterns will earn multiple medals in-game. If you want this, you better start sending Postcards out to your friends!
How To Get Regional Pokemon Without Travel
One of the most difficult parts about having regional Pokemon is that it makes it hard for trainers to “Catch ‘Em All.” Sometimes, traveling just isn’t an option; especially traveling somewhere far away. However, there is a way that trainers can work around this.
Trading
Pokemon can be traded by players. If you’re able to find a trainer from another region, you can trade regional exclusives. This would allow both players to get Pokemon they otherwise wouldn’t have. You can also trade with players who have traveled and have since returned to your region. This would allow you both to get those regional Pokemon.
Events
Throughout the course of the game, Pokemon GO has seen some events that have allowed players to take home Pokemon that are not originally from their region. Sometimes, Pokemon are known to move around from region to region. This is the inspiration for some of the events known to Pokemon GO. Trainers who want to catch regional Pokemon need to keep an eye out for these events. You can look at current events on the Pokemon GO website.
