Sun Stone Evolutions

Petilil and Sunkern evolve using a sun stone

There are a total of two Pokemon in the game that can evolve using a Sun Stone. The first is Petilil, and when the Sun Stone is used on them, they will evolve into Lilligant. There is no specific level requirement you must meet first. You can also find Lilligant in the wild, so if you do so first, you can save your Sun Stone for the next Pokemon.

Sunkern is the second Pokemon that will evolve when you use a Sun Stone. Just like Petilil, there is no specific level requirement necessary here. You can also find Sunflora in the wild and completely circumvent the need for a Sun Stone to begin with. But if you have already caught a Sunkern and happen to have a Sun Stone on hand, you might as well save yourself the trip and use it.

Where To Find A Sun Stone

Sun Stone Location on map

The Sun Stone is a pretty common evolution stone in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. You can find them in any of the desert biomes as random items on the ground. There are also some guaranteed ones you can find by exploring the tunnels the Titan Orthworm digs out all over East Providence – Area 3 (see the flag icon in the image above).

Like the other evolution stones, there is also a chance you can purchase one at the Port Marinada auction house. This route will likely take you much longer, though, since the stock of items continues to change from day to day. There is no guarantee there will be a Sun Stone when you arrive, but if you remain persistent, you’ll eventually get the opportunity to bid on one.
