Sony’s God of War Ragnarok expands on the original title with a much more robust collection of items to choose from. In this game, players get to customize their playstyle depending on the weapons or gear they prefer.
Out of the many new items introduced in the expansive sequel, the Amulet of Yggdrasil is a pretty special catch. It’s an item that fits in Enchantments, providing a solid way to increase stats. As you explore more of the game’s story and side quests, you’ll find the Jewels of Yggdrasil, a way to unlock up to seven new slots for the Amulet.
What Is The Amulet Of Yggdrasil?
It is a unique item given to Kratos as a reward for defeating Nidhogg in Vanaheim. This mission takes place in Chapter 06: The Reckoning and follows Kratos’ journey with Freya.
The Amulet is nothing special on its own, but the Enchantments that can be attached to it are extremely helpful. By default, two slots are unlocked, but you must craft all the remaining slots by finding special items called Jewels of Yggdrasil.
There are seven Jewels in the game, existing across different realms and random points in your travels. Some can only be encountered by progressing naturally, while others will need to be uncovered in optional areas.
How Enchantments Work
The enchantments that exist are designed to enhance certain aspects of Kratos’ powers. Some offer improvements to offensive or defensive stats, while others give Kratos some perks against certain types of opponents. With more slots on your Amulet, it will be easier to mix and match the best enhancements to equip before an encounter.
The Jewels of Yggdrasil are usually associated with puzzles or enemy encounters, so it’s best to prepare for a bit of action.
Jewel #1 – Midgard
The first Jewel is only available after completing Chapter 09: The Word of Fate. It’s located in Midgard and can be picked up after defeating a Frost Phantom. If you miss the drop, you can still pick up the item at the blacksmith’s shop.
Jewel #2 – Svartalfheim
Another story reward, this Jewel, is only available in Chapter 10: Forging Destiny Quest following a fight with an Ogre in Svartalflheim. It’s not particularly tough, and you can always pick up the item at the blacksmith’s if you missed it.
Jewel #3 – Svartalfheim
To get this Jewel, travel to Alberich Island after getting the second Jewel and Draupnir Spear. You can fulfill a Favour called The Lost Treasure while on this island, so speak to the spirits you encounter while engaging in this walkthrough.
After docking the boat, move forward and use the Draupnir to elevate yourself through the wind vent. Climb to the top of this platform and move towards your right. You’ll see an elevator mechanism at the end, but don’t interact with it. Instead, turn your attention to the left. Fire a sonic arrow at the soundstone rock here, then head downwards.
At the bottom, look at the elevator mechanism and hone in on a rock with a wind fissure surrounding it. Prime the Draupnir Spear and fire, then detonate. This will cause the elevator to rise. Move onto this elevator and use your grapple to make it to the other side. Run forward and grapple once again to your right.
Turn around and look for a wind fissure, then use the spear to blow up the rock it’s coming from. Circle your way to the top until you find a chain crank. Use this to lower the barrier and hold until it doesn’t budge. The area you’re facing will have yellow gear to your right. Create a Hex Bubble and throw the Leviathan Axe to freeze it successfully. Now you can let go.
Head down to the wooden platform from earlier. Now that the chain is in place, you’ll see an exposed geyser. Recall your axe and quickly throw it at the geyser before the Hex bubble dissipates. Now, the lift will be lowered, allowing you to grapple over.
Once at the lift, recall your axe, allowing the lift to rise up automatically. On this new platform, you’ll have to defeat some Cursed Wretches. Face the runic symbols and grapple to the wall; turn your camera and grapple to the opposite wall. Climb to the top of the island, and you’ll see the Legendary chest ready with the Jewel in wait.
Jewel #4 – Vanaheim
This Jewel is located in a legendary chest in Notaunn’s Garden. To get a hold of it, you’ll need to solve a puzzle with Hex Bubbles. First, turn your attention to the main building with a visibly big window space, and shoot two hex bubbles towards the red vines. Shoot another two slightly to the left.
Move towards the left and shoot a Hex Bubble from outside, then use the fire from your Blades of Chaos to explode the Hexes, causing a chain reaction that destroys these vines. This will reveal a destructible chain within. Use your Axe to break it, opening the room up.
Some enemies will spawn here, but making short work of them won’t be a problem. Once they are defeated, open the chest to reveal your Jewel.
Jewel #5 – Vanaheim
To get this legendary chest, you’ll have to complete the Favour, Return of the River. It’s also better to complete the Path of Destruction side quest before venturing into this search.
Fast travel to The Jungle and head to your right, then walk into the room at the end of the area. You’ll find the Legendary chest with its Jewel stored inside.
Jewel #6 – Alfheim
Fast travel to Alfheim in The Forbidden Sands and grapple to the top, then keep moving forward through the doors. You’ll eventually find a larger room.
In this new room, turn your attention towards the left and grapple to the top. Here, you’ll find the Legendary Chest with the Jewel stored within.
Jewel #7 – Midgard
Fast Travel to The Oarsmen in Midgard and push forward. You’ll encounter a large boulder that you can lift to pass, then keep moving forward. Ignite your Blades of Chaos and burn the bushes to your right. Keep moving forward until you find an underground area.
While underground, navigate your way to the top by using a chain and elevated platforms. You’ll find a chain once you’re outside.
Press O to pull this giant chain away, revealing a secret area. In this secret area, you’ll find the Jewel of Yggdrasil stored within a Legendary Chest.
