E3 no longer exists, but in the coming months, there will be various video game events such as the Summer Game Fest, Xbox Games Showcase, Nintendo Direct, Gamescom, and Sony’s events.

As is tradition, during the summer, the video game industry, publishers, and developers will hold their usual conferences where we will learn about new titles and get more information on previously announced ones, establishing a provisional release calendar for the second half of 2024 and beyond.

Gaming Showcases For Summer 2024

After several years of back and forth, E3, the event around which other presentations revolved, has been permanently canceled. But everything else continues.

The Summer Game Fest will again attempt to fill the void left by the E3. Major companies like Xbox, Nintendo, and Ubisoft will hold their own conferences, and the smaller digital events popularized in recent years will also take place. Here’s a look at all of them:

Summer Game Fest – June 7, 2:00 p.m. PT / 5:00 p.m. ET

The Summer Game Fest 2024, organized by The Game Awards team and hosted by Geoff Keighley, returns live from the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles. For approximately two hours, starting at 2:00 p.m. PT / 5:00 p.m. ET, games from various publishers and developers will be showcased. As in the past two years, the Summer Game Fest – Play Days will follow, an in-person event for press and content creators where attendees can try out some of these titles and interview their developers.

Devolver Direct – June 8, 5:00 p.m. PT / 8:00 p.m. ET

Following the Summer Game Fest, Devolver Digital will hold its traditional Devolver Direct, showcasing indie titles such as Phantom Abyss, Return to Monkey Island, Inscryption, Cult of the Lamb, and The Talos Principle 2. This year’s event will be part of Geoff Keighley’s SGF 2024 and will last about 20 minutes, featuring game announcements, trailers, and updates.

Xbox Games Showcase – June 9, 10 a.m. PT

The Xbox Games Showcase will be the first time Microsoft combines games from Xbox Game Studios, Bethesda Softworks, and Activision Blizzard into one presentation, along with titles from their partners. Following the general presentation, there will be a dedicated segment for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, the newly announced installment in Activision’s shooter series. While we’ve seen its name and logo, details like its release date and available platforms are yet to be confirmed.

Ubisoft Forward – June 10

The Ubisoft Forward will take place on Monday, June 10, though the exact time is yet to be confirmed. Following a 2023 conference filled with major titles, this year we expect to see more of Star Wars Outlaws, Assassin’s Creed Codename RED, and Splinter Cell Remake.

Nintendo Direct

Despite its absence from Gamescom 2024, Nintendo will hold its usual Direct in June. The Japanese company has not set a date for the digital event but has clarified that it will focus on games releasing for the Switch in the second half of 2024. The successor to the hybrid console will be announced in this fiscal year, but not during this event.

PlayStation and Electronic Arts

Sony has been hosting its PlayStation Showcase at the end of May for several years. This is the company’s most important annual digital event, and this year, the official unveiling of the PS5 Pro is expected. Although not yet confirmed, unofficial reports suggest it will take place in the last days of May.

Electronic Arts previously held EA Play Live events but has changed its strategy in recent years. Instead of consolidating their diverse productions into one event, they now announce them individually, usually through dedicated digital presentations, as they did with Dead Space Remake and are currently doing with Skate.

While there is no confirmed conference for 2024, recent statements about their plans to introduce ads in AAA games suggest they have more plans for the future.

Guerrilla Collective – June 6 10:00 a.m. PT / 1:00 p.m. ET

The fifth summer edition of the digital event organized by various developers and publishers will take place on Thursday, June 6. The Guerrilla Collective will also have an in-person presentation the following day, where some of the showcased games can be tried out, and a Steam event with demos.

THQ Nordic Digital Showcase 2024 – August 2, 12:00 p.m. PT / 3:00 p.m. ET

THQ Nordic, the publisher of Alone in the Dark, has announced an online event. The THQ Nordic Digital Showcase 2024 will take place on Friday, August 2, and will feature updates on Gothic Remake and Titan Quest II, among other titles.

Gamescom Opening Night Live – August 20

Europe’s biggest video game event, Gamescom 2024, returns from August 21 to 25 in Cologne, Germany. As usual, on August 20 (time to be confirmed), Geoff Keighley will present the Opening Night Live, where new games will be announced, gameplay of known titles will be shown, and previews of what will be available during the following days at Koelnmesse will be offered, although Nintendo will not be present.
