Season 5 of Aggretsuko is right around the corner as Netflix has confirmed that the final season will be released on February 16th. It was announced late last year that the anime will enter its concluding season after taking a year of hiatus. Since 2018, Aggretsuko has been releasing a ten-episode season yearly but failed to do so last year.
The timid twenty-five-year-old Retsuko returns with new adventures for the fifth and final season as she lives her daily life as an office lady. She recently graduated with a degree in finance and landed a job working as an accountant in a trading firm. What she thought was a fulfilment of a dream with hopes for a bright future will soon turn into a stressful adult life.
Retsuko’s life will soon be filled with stress as she starts dealing with office politics, an overbearing boss, dating, having a social life and overcoming the overall stress of being an adult. The fifth season will open following the cliffhanger scene between Retsuko and Haida during the previous season. Aggretsuko’s fifth season will lead the pair into a completely separate path as Haida quits his job and Retsuko will be running for office.
Just like the previous seasons, the fifth season will be handled with the direction and scripts of Rarecho at studio Fanworks. While the episodes will still primarily focus on Retsuko’s daily life, Haida will get his fair share of screen time as seen in the trailer. The fifth season will also introduce a new character named Shikabane, who might have an impact on Haida’s life.
It is still unclear whether the final season will portray a romantic relationship between Retsuko and Haida. Although Netflix teased fans with a brief narration of what’s about to happen in the forthcoming season. It was revealed that Retsuko has decided to live together with Haida to save him since he started living in an internet café after being kicked out of his apartment. The “Aggretsuko” series depicts the daily life of officer worker Retsuko, who copes with her frustrations with her boss, co-workers and the world by belting out death metal. In this season, after Haida quits his job, he is forced out of his apartment that is owned by his parents and begins living in an internet café.
There, he encounters Shikabane, someone who seems to have given up on everything. Retsuko decides to live with Haida to save him. Then, a suspicious man who says he is member of the Diet comes to recruit Retsuko.
