Age, Height, & Birthdays Of Main Characters

Naruto by Masashi Kishimoto was one of the most popular and bestselling manga during its original run. The popularity it gained during its peak, paired with the number of issues released with it, caused it to be regarded as one of the “Big Three” by the anime community, alongside the likes of Bleach and One Piece. Despite the original series coming to an end with the 700th chapter of Naruto: Shippuden, the ninja world continues to grow to this day, with Boruto: Naruto Next Generations coming up on 300 episodes.

Even for the original series alone, the Naruto world boasts a colorful cast of characters. With each character having their own unique personality, relationships, and aspirations, it’s hard not to fall in love and relate to these ninjas as they go about life, learning what it means to be a shinobi. It’s perfectly reasonable how watching these characters shine on-screen will make you want to look into them on a deeper level and relate to them even more. For that, we’ve compiled a list of the characters’ ages, heights, and birthdays along with a little introduction for each of them.

This article only keeps its focus on the original Naruto series, not Shippuden. So, the age and height of your favorite characters are listed depending on how old and tall the characters were in the Naruto series.

All Naruto Characters

The Naruto cast is pretty big, and from the original series, it only got so much larger. As each character gets their time in the sun, it can be a bit difficult to keep track of them all, especially during arcs like the Chunin Exams. Here’s a brief description of each character and the role they play in the show.

Naruto Uzumaki

Naruto is the main protagonist of the show. He’s generally seen as hot-blooded and stubborn and even a troublemaker at first with the pranks he would pull for attention. He’s also very strong-willed, choosing to work tirelessly towards his goals while hardly thinking about giving up (though he falls a bit short when it comes to his studies). However troublesome and stubborn he may be, he always has the best of intentions at heart.

Despite not being capable of performing the most basic jutsu for his level at first, he eventually masters an advanced technique that becomes a staple of his moveset: the Shadow Clone Jutsu. He goes about his life as a ninja under the Ninja Academy’s Team 7, or Team Kakashi, alongside his peers and his teachers. He learns more about himself and the powerful beast sealed inside him as he continues to work towards his goal of becoming the Hokage and earning the respect of the Hidden Leaf Village.

Sasuke Uchiha

Sasuke at the beginning and end of part one of the Naruto anime.

Sasuke Uchiha is another main character alongside Naruto. Whereas Naruto was seen as hopeless and a troublemaker, Sasuke was seen as the complete opposite due to his natural intellect and skill. His will would be tested as Naruto surpasses him, and he attempts to defect to the enemy side for greater strength. Despite that, however different his methods may be, he’s just as stubborn and strong-willed as Naruto is, never giving up on what he thinks is the right path to take.

Sasuke comes from a clan nearing extinction after all, but he and his brother were wiped out. Now, as he aspires to become stronger in Team 7 alongside Naruto, he works towards the goal of enacting vengeance upon who was responsible for wiping out his family. While Naruto and Sasuke were always seen as opposites, they had more alike than people on the outside realized, such as their lack of family. They bonded over their similarities despite consistently challenging one another, eventually considering each other to be best friends.

Sakura Haruno

Sakura blushing on the left and after cutting her hair on the right in part one of the Naruto anime

Sakura Haruno is the female lead of the show. She is very intelligent and quite adaptable when it comes to knowledge revolving around being a ninja. Despite this, she originally wasn’t very capable physically, on top of consistently suffering from self-esteem issues. Her innermost thoughts let out her self-esteem issues in violent and angry ways, which is why it’s often kept beneath her calm and more collected outer shell.

Sakura is Naruto’s love interest, but she herself has no interest in him, often shunning him. She only has eyes for Sasuke. This crush causes her to cut off her friendship with another friend of hers, Ino Yamanaka, after Sakura figures out that Ino likes him as well. After a bout between the two sheds light on how their crush has ruined their friendship, they get back on good terms again, and she works under a skilled ninja towards becoming someone capable of standing alongside the rest of her Team 7 members, Naruto and Sasuke.

Kakashi Hatake

Naruto Kakashi Hatake holding tag

Kakashi Hatake is a major character in the show. He’s often regarded as the strongest ninja in the Hidden Leaf Village. He’s often relaxed and laid-back, only getting agitated and bothered very rarely. He’s seen as a mysterious figure, which isn’t helped by the mask he wears over his face. When his head isn’t stuffed in a Make-Out Paradise book, he’s demonstrating what it means to be a skilled ninja.

Kakashi was the youngest Jonin-level in his class and one of the youngest ever. He looks over the members of Team 7 as their sensei. He used to be quite independent and arrogant in the past, but events in his early life would lead him to understand the importance of working as a team and putting the well-being of your peers above anything else, including the mission at hand. He would try to teach this lesson to his pupils and try to steer them in the proper direction of becoming great ninjas.

Hiruzen Sarutobi (The Third Hokage)

The Third Hogake, Hiruzen Sarutobi, in the Naruto anime.

Hiruzen Sarutobi is the Third Hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village. He was entrusted to take care of Naruto when his family couldn’t. With his age has come wisdom that the village has adored throughout the years he’s spent as his leader. He believes that all the residents of the Hidden Leaf are family, and he does his best to be there and help everyone out.

Unfortunately, The Third Hokage doesn’t get much time to shine at the beginning of the series. He would go on to die trying to protect the village from Orochimaru during the Chunin Exams. However, his influence over the village never died out. It’s clear why the ninja world referred to him as a “God of Shinobi.”

Orochimaru

Orochimaru in the Naruto anime.

Orochimaru is the original main antagonist of the series. He’s also one of the Legendary Sannin, Hiruzen’s pupils. He yearns for eternal life to learn the world’s knowledge, which he’s done through unethical experiments on his former fellow villagers. He’s quite a creepy and twisted person who often finds pleasure in instilling fear in other people. He also doesn’t have much care for the well-being of others, even those that would follow in his footsteps. That being said, he also has a sort of god complex, where he sees himself to be much better than everyone else.

He would start off testing Sasuke during the Chunin Exams, in which he would consider him a worthy pupil and inflict him with a curse mark. Hiruzen would seal Orochimaru’s arms to prevent him from using any jutsu at the cost of his own life. However, with the help of his subordinates, he continues to pull the strings and cause trouble for the village, eventually causing Sasuke to defect from the Hidden Leaf village by the end of the series.

Itachi Uchiha

Itachi Uchiha as he originally appeared in part one of the anime.

Itachi Uchiha is one of the few remaining members of the Uchiha Clan and Sasuke’s older brother. He’s also part of the Akatsuki clan, tasked with the mission of hunting down the Nine Tails Jinchuriki. He was initially depicted as rather cold and emotionless. He wouldn’t seem fazed when inflicting harm upon his younger brother. However, he did seem to take care in ensuring damage to himself and others wouldn’t be too great.

Itachi was the one responsible for murdering Sasuke’s clan. Sasuke’s end goal of obtaining greater power is towards the means of killing him. However, as their first encounter in the show would demonstrate, he would have a long way to go. However, Itachi’s behavior, especially when it comes to making sure his partner Kisame didn’t cause too much trouble, hinted at the possibility that there’s more to his character than we know.

Gaara

Gaara both normal and turning into his Jinchuriki form in part one of the Naruto anime.

Gaara and his siblings Temari and Kankuro come from the Hidden Sand Village. Gaara is outwardly calm, not paying much mind to anything other than himself. However, he’s very unhinged on the inside, prone to acts of violence and bloodlust. This is partly because of his disdain for human life due to the trauma he’s endured as a child and also due to the beast that resides inside of him and torments him with threats to take over his body.

Gaara and Naruto are extremely similar to each other, to the point where one shows how the other could’ve turned out it. Whereas Gaara had given up on obtaining the love and respect of his village, Naruto continued to work and thrive for it. A battle between the two would end in Gaara realizing the worth of friendship and learning that there’s more to life than trying to survive. Gaara would go on to look up to Naruto and aspire to be like him for the better.

Jiraiya

Jiraiya in the Naruto anime.

Jiraiya is another one of the Legendary Sannin and a mentor and godfather to Naruto. He’s quite flashy and endearing, striking dynamic poses during battle. He’s also very light-hearted, often making jokes at his own expense to get a laugh out of those around him. A staple of his character, however, is that he can be a large pervert around young or beautiful women. What comes first is his loyalty to the village and his willingness to make hard decisions to protect it.

Jiraiya helped Naruto learn what would become another staple of his moveset: the Rasengan. Sasuke defecting from the village and Naruto trying to bring him back were similar to Jiraiya and Orochimaru’s relationship. Because of this, Jiraiya would take on the role of training Naruto even further at the end of the series, so he would get stronger in hopes of eventually bringing his best friend back.

Tsunade (The Fifth Hokage)

Tsunade in the Naruto anime.

Tsunade is the final member of the Legendary Sannin. She’s also the world’s greatest medical ninja, on top of being the strongest female ninja, or kunoichi. She is a noble character, believing in the idea of dreams and doing whatever it takes to achieve them. She’s also short-tempered and lazy at times when it comes to her work as a Hokage. A known problem of hers is that she really loves to gamble.

Tsunade used to believe that it was foolish to become a Hokage or to even dream of anything. This was due to the close ones she lost that had pursued that same goal. But upon meeting Naruto and seeing all he could achieve, despite his lack of talent, Tsunade reconsidered her position on the belief. Thanks to him, she found her belief in dreams again and took on the dream of those she loved, becoming the Fifth Hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village.

Neji Hyuga

Neji in part one of the Naruto anime showing his cursed seal.

Neji Huyga is a student of Ninja Academy’s Team 3 or Team Guy. He’s also part of the branching house of the Hyuga clan, which he’s obligated to serve. He’s greatly talented and skilled, but his positioning in his clan is what he believes holds him back. It’s because of this, as well as the death of his father that he grew to be a very serious and cold person, especially for someone of his age. He held a firm belief that his fate, as well as the fate of those around him, were determined from birth and that trying to change it would be futile.

Neji’s beliefs would be challenged throughout the Chunin Exams, ultimately by Naruto, when they would face off against each other. Neji considered Naruto to be a failure, whereas he himself was a genius. When the battle seemed hopeless for Naruto, he put his training under Jiraiya to use to make a last stand, in which he would become victorious and show Neji that destiny is what you make of it. Because of this, Neji works to become stronger so that he would not only never lose again but also so he can make the world he envisioned for both himself and his friends.

Hinata Hyuga

Hinata in Part 1 of the Naruto anime

Hinata Hyuga is a student of Ninja Academy’s Team 8, or Team Kurenai. She’s also a member of Hyuga’s main house and Neji’s cousin. She’s also fascinated with Naruto, to the point that she develops a crush on him. She’s very shy and polite, treating everyone with respect and considering their well-being above her own. However, this behavior has caused her to have little belief in herself, which only got worse from her father trying to change it. She eventually goes on to change her way of thinking, so she can see herself as useful to those she cares about.

Before Neji’s battle with Naruto in the Chunin Exams, Neji and Hinata would face off against each other. Everyone lacked faith that she would win and insisted she gives up, but Naruto urged her to try and cheer her on. This would push Hinata to fight against Neji as hard as she could, but she would lose the fight from too much damage to her organs, ending with Naruto vowing to defeat Neji. He later confided in Hinata that he didn’t believe he could do it, but Hinata gave him the same vote of confidence that he had given her prior, showing that she could be of use to others, especially those she deeply cared for and looked up to.

Shikamaru Nara

Shikamaru in part one of the Naruto anime.

Shikamaru Nara is a student in Ninja Academy’s Team 10, or Team Asuma. His intellect is a very rare find among kids his age. However, the same can be said about his laziness, which often holds back his grades. He rarely wants to partake in anything at all, especially things he finds to be particularly boring or troublesome. He’ll even go as far as to pretend he’s unable to do some things for one reason or another. Despite this, he will often do what it takes to benefit those he cares about, however, annoyed he may act about it.

Shikamaru can also be a very perceptive character, seeing past what people aren’t willing to overlook. This trait of his is what’s caused him to make friends with classmates like Choji and, eventually, Naruto. This is also a trait that’s noticed by Tsunade, who urges him to put it to good use. He would eventually do so when assigned the task of returning Sasuke to the Hidden Leaf, along with whoever he can round up in time.

Choji Akimichi

Choji in part one of the Naruto anime.

Choji Akimichi is also a member of Team 10, alongside Shikamaru and Ino. He’s a heavyset character, something that he’s quite sensitive about, especially when he’s referred to as fat. Despite this, he continues indulging in his eating habits at the beginning of the series, as he’s often seen eating food of some kind (he eventually does this so much after his loss in the Chunin Exams that he ends up in the hospital). His weight aside, he’s a gentle and caring person, which has allowed him to have a long-lasting relationship with Shikamaru. But he also lacks confidence in himself.

Choji is the most physically powerful of the Ninja Academy students, but he happens to share Shikamaru’s unwillingness to do troublesome things. This showed when Shikamaru appointed him to join him and Naruto to rescue Sasuke, which he initially refused but ended up being tricked due to the influence that food has over him. Despite this, he’s very loyal to Shikamaru, to the point that he’s willing to die for him.

Kiba Inuzuka

Kiba in part one of the Naruto anime.

Kiba is another member of Team 8 alongside Hinata. He can be egotistical at times and sometimes does things without much thought. He also loves the thrill of battle and is willing to face opponents stronger than he is. But he’s also very loyal, both to his clan and those he cares about. He’s especially willing to protect his canine companion, that’s often around him, Akamaru.

Kiba’s ego is checked by Naruto when they face off in the Chunin exams, which he loses. He’s rather caring of Hinata and, despite him being one of those that told her to give up against Neji, believes she’s capable of handling herself. Kiba would lend his assistance to the Sasuke Rescue Team when his other Team 8 member was absent on a mission, proving to be a very valuable member thanks to his and Akamaru’s great sense of smell, as well as their capabilities in battle.

Rock Lee

Rock Lee in part one of the Naruto anime.

Rock Lee is another member of Team 3, along with Neji and Tenten. He’s very eccentric and energetic. He’s also very hardworking, constantly training to better himself. This is due to his lack of ability to perform ninjutsu or genjutsu, forcing him to focus on taijutsu. This has yielded great results, allowing him to beat the likes of Sasuke, a naturally talented and skilled fighter.

Lee’s lack of talent would make Neji regard him as a failure. Despite this, he worked exceptionally hard, challenging Neji’s perception of him in his battle against Gaara in the Chunin Exams. Despite eventually losing that fight, he proved himself to Neji and everyone else that watched, showing that with hard work and dedication, ninjutsu, and genjutsu can be secondary to becoming a great ninja.

Might Guy

Might Guy giving a thumbs up in the Naruto anime.

Might Guy is the mentor of Team 3. When Lee aspired to be a great ninja despite his lack of talent, Guy took it upon himself to teach him taijutsu. Lee would look up to him and adopt a lot of his personality traits and even his appearance to a degree. He is confident and committed to whatever he does and is a firm believer in the “power of youth.”

Guy considers himself and Kakashi to be rivals, often forcing him to partake in contests in which Guy often loses. This causes him to be seen as annoying to some people, most notably his own students, Neji and Tenten. Despite this, he is a very powerful ninja. Underneath his excitable and energetic personality is someone that takes the well-being of his comrades and his home very seriously. Even Kakashi himself sees Guy as not only a close friend of his but also someone that’s a worthy ally in the field of battle.

Iruka Umino

Iruka Umino in the Naruto anime.

Iruka Umino is the instructor of the Ninja Academy. He’s the ideal teacher, having a big heart and watching closely over his students but being strict when he needs to reign them in. He shares a lot of similarities to Naruto in that he’s also strong-willed and determined to achieve his goals. He also shares Naruto’s love for Ichiraku Ramen, which the two would often share bowls of together.

Iruka is also similar to Naruto from a childhood perspective. He also lost both of his parents but remained determined and kind. This allowed him to relate to and understand Naruto when everyone else would either neglect him or be violent toward him. While Naruto would continue to cause trouble for the village and be uncaring of their reprimands, he deeply respected Iruka. In turn, Iruka would see Naruto as a younger brother that he hoped would succeed.
