AK-xolotl has doubled its Kickstarter goal and we couldn’t be happier.
It’s not necessarily because we’re in favour of arming amphibians, though we did get banned from our local pond for trying to give the tadpoles tiny chainsaws. But we took the demo version of AK-xolotl, which sees you playing an armed axolotl, for a spin and absolutely loved it.
Aside from just gunning down enemies, you also cook them up and use them to acquire upgrades. Plus, there are some baby axolotls which need feeding so you’ve got to keep your axolotl busy. If, at this point, you’re wondering what the hell an axolotl is, check this video out. We’ll wait while you melt.
Now, AK-xolotl has hit Kickstarter and it’s doing awfully well. With a target of £12,830, it’s raised over £30,000 in pledges; in fact, it was fully funded in a meagre four hours. Kickstarters generally slow down but we’d be surprised if it didn’t hit six figures before the time the campaign’s out. Sure, the axolotl’s cuteness factor will have something to do with it, but it’s still an impressive accomplishment thus far.
The one remaining stretch goal is a Boss Rush Mode, though developer 2Awesome Studio will almost certainly add more. The game is pencilled in for a March 2023 release, landing on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Mac.
