A heist adventure in Tevinter is coming this winter.
Netflix has confirmed that Dragon Age: Absolution, an adult animated series based on the Dragon Age video game franchise, will stream exclusively on the platform from December 9th. A new trailer was also released, which highlights action-packed scenes, a diverse cast of characters, and acclaimed voice-acting talent.
In June, Netflix gave viewers their first glimpse of Dragon Age: Absolution with an official teaser. Along with the one-minute video, Netflix revealed that the six-episode series was created in collaboration with Canadian developer BioWare, produced by Red Dog Culture House, and led by showrunner Mairghread Scott.
The new two-minute trailer offers a glimpse at the tragic background of the elven protagonist Miriam, a former slave who carves a path for herself as a mercenary. Working with a ragtag group of friends, Miriam must steal the Circulum Infinitus, a dangerous artifact fueled by Blood Magic, while overcoming her traumatic past. The series will take place in Tevinter, an empire controlled by mages, and tackle mature themes such as power, corruption, and freedom.
Along with the new trailer, a star-studded voice-acting cast has been revealed. Names that may be familiar to gamers include Kimberly Brooks as Miriam, Matthew Mercer as the freedom fighter Fairbanks, and Ashly Burch as the Qunari mage Qwydion. Brooks is well known for voicing the Gunnery Chief Ashley Williams in the Mass Effect franchise and Laboratory Assistant Sky Young in the League of Legends animated series Arcane.
Mercer is famed for serving as the Dungeon Master of the award-winning Dungeons & Dragons web series Critical Role, as well as voice acting in numerous video games and anime. Burch won Performance of the Year for her voice acting as Chloe Price in Life Is Strange and Best Gaming Performance and Breakout Performance as Aloy in Horizon Zero Dawn at the Golden Joystick Awards.
Nearly eight years after Dragon Age: Inquisition was released, BioWare announced that Dragon Age: Dreadwolf reached the Alpha milestone, meaning the game is playable from beginning to end. Fans of the franchise were eager to learn of the development and speculated whether Dragon Age: Absolution would be a tie-in to the upcoming game. Considering that previous spin-offs have featured characters that played an important role in the games, it’s likely that Miriam and some of her friends will reappear in Dragon Age: Dreadwolf.
