How to change appearance and transmog gear in Rise of the Ronin

Even if you spend hours in the character creation screen of Rise of the Ronin, odds are that you’ll find something you don’t like about your custom character once you start playing the game. It’s a curse that affects every RPG with character creation, but thankfully, Rise of the Ronin lets you change your appearance at any time.

In addition to changing your character’s appearance (and your Blade Twin’s appearance on top of that), you can also completely change the look of your weapons and armor with a transmog system that lets you keep the stats and perks from your gear while still looking your best. If you’ve got a strong fashion sense, then Rise of the Ronin has a ton of customization options to choose from.

How to Change Character Appearance in Rise of the Ronin

You can change your appearance in Rise of the Ronin by visiting the Longhouse. This is your base of operations during the main story and you’ll unlock it within the first hour or two of gameplay. Once you enter the Longhouse, choose Relax and then Appearance to revisit the character creation screen and change how your character looks. You can even change your Blade Twin’s appearance for future story cutscenes as well.

The Longhouse is unlocked shortly after reaching Yokohama and meeting up with Sakamoto Ryoma. You only need to complete one or two quests in Yokohama before you reach this point, so the wait isn’t too long. After you unlock the Longhouse, you can teleport to it at any time via the Veiled Edge Banner outside.

How to Transmog Weapons and Armor in Rise of the Ronin

If you want to change the look of your clothing and weapons, you can do so at the Longhouse. Just visit the Longhouse, select Relax, and then choose Redesign. This will let you transmog your gear and change its appearance to match any weapon or armor designs that you’ve collected during your travels. You’ll unlock more designs as you level up and get new gear, so be sure to check back often.

Not only can you equip custom outfits and armor with Rise of the Ronin’s transmog system, but you can also pick and choose specific parts of certain outfits to fully customize your look. If you have the Western-Inspired Wear suit unlocked, for example, you can choose to only wear the vest or the shirt instead of the entire ensemble. The same goes for kimonos, samurai armor, and other gear in your wardrobe.

In addition to that, you can also unlock unique customization options that are only usable via the Redesign system. Some vendors have clothing items and accessories in their inventories that do not have stats and are purely cosmetic. They’ll be clearly marked as such, so there’s no need to worry about accidentally buying the wrong thing. If you purchase any of these items, you can equip them via the Redesign menu at the Longhouse.
