Konami has yet to officially announce a release date for the Bloober Team-developed Silent Hill 2 remake, though PlayStation did suggest earlier in the year that the game would be out sometime in 2024. As such, when a release date or window for the game remained elusive even when a new trailer was shown off last month, questions were raised once again about how far away from launch the game is.

Recent developments, however, might suggest that it’s actually approaching the finish line. As spotted by Gematsu on Twitter, the Silent Hill 2 remake was recently rated by the Game Rating and Administration Committee in South Korea. Since age ratings for games typically tend to happen when they’re in the tail end of production and approaching release, this could indicate that Silent Hill 2 is finally preparing for launch.

Last month, Motoi Okamoto, Silent Hill series producer at Konami, said that the game was in the final stages of development, echoing similar previous statements by developer Bloober Team.

Silent Hill 2’s trailer in February attracted some backlash, with criticism being directed at its excessive focus on combat, among other things. Shortly afterward, Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno said he felt the trailer didn’t “reflect the spirit of the game”, and that Konami was entirely responsible for the game’s marketing.

Silent Hill 2 is in development for PS5 and PC.
