Fallout TV Show Reveals Amazing First Look at Power Armor and More
The vaults have finally opened up, to reveal all the dwellers that have been lying in wait. Official information and images, care of Vanity Fair, has emerged triumphantly with an exclusive look at things we can look forward to.
While there still isn’t a trailer in sight, we know that the release date is April 12, 2024.
Time to Retreat to the Fallout Shelter!
An official synopsis from Vanity Fair reads as follows:
In the new series, debuting on Amazon’s Prime Video on April 12, a nuclear war breaks out across Earth in the year 2077—which is (or was) an era of robots, hover cars, and a deep and abiding nostalgia for the America of the 1940s. Everything from the clothes, to the entertainment, to the vehicles mimic the look of that bygone age, albeit with a sci-fi tilt. That retro-futurist aesthetic was one of the charms of the mega-selling video game series that inspired the show.
Official Synopsis for the Fallout TV Show
The Fallout TV show will include a truly fresh story that’s set in a beloved war-torn nuclear wasteland. Instead of retelling stories that have already been told in Fallout 3 or Fallout 4, we will be experiencing something unique in Los Angeles, California. Todd Howard jumped at the idea to create more stories in-universe instead of rehashing something they already did.
Set approximately around the same time as the games, in 2277, we follow the footsteps of one Lucy played by Ella Purnell (Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, Sweetbitter). She is described as an “optimistic Vault Dweller with an all-American can-do spirit”. This gives us off the vibe that she might be quite impressionable, and a little bit naive when it comes to the way of the world. Especially since she’s been cooped up in the new Vault 33 for so long.
The Bombs Have Dropped
Lucy will be joined in some ways by “The Ghoul” played by Walton Goggins (Justified, Vice Principals). The Ghoul is only described as a ruthless bounty hunter, so it should be safe to assume that he could potentially act as a guide that will guide Lucy throughout the wasteland.
Another major character will be “Overseer Hank”, played by Kyle MacLachlan. He will be the main leader of Vault 33 at the time of the Fallout show, and he is Lucy’s father.
A crisis will be the main catalyst for the game’s story, which forces Lucy out into the wasteland. There, she discovers things that are too horrifying for her to comprehend, opening many avenues for storytelling.
Speaking of storytelling, the Fallout TV show is being helmed by the power couple Johnathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, of Westworld fame. Nolan in particular did an excellent job (at least in the earlier seasons) at creating a deep and thought-provoking world that acted as the backdrop for the sci-fi western. He also co-wrote movies such as The Prestige, and The Dark Knight which are both critically acclaimed titles.
Brotherhood of Steel
One of the factions confirmed that Lucy will encounter is The Brotherhood of Steel, a group of warriors and scholars that have taken it upon themselves to control the technology available to mankind. Their ideology revolves around the notion that it was technology that ended the world in the first place, so someone needs to protect humanity from itself.
The Brotherhood of Steel is showcased in many images, the most impressive of which is a closeup of the Power Armor. It is jaw-dropping in all its glory, to say the least. A suited-up Brotherhood Knight stands beside the character “Maximus” (played by Aaron Moten), and he towers over the unarmored human. The soldier is also armed with a full machinegun instead of a minigun which can be seen in most Bethesda adaptations.
Another impressive look at the Brotherhood showcases a group of recruits as they watch in wonder at Vertiberd transport ships that are flying around a massive airship called the Caswennan. It looks like a sense of scale and wonder will be present in the Fallout TV show.
Fallout Boy
Nolan and Joy have all the right ingredients to create something truly special. The official images so far are quite impressive and varied enough to get all types of Fallout fans excited. We only need to see how things look in motion, as well as more on the story, before final judgment can be passed.
The Fallout TV show is a live-action adaptation of the popular post-apocalyptic video game series created by Bethesda Game Studios. The show is produced by Amazon Studios and Kilter Films, the company behind HBO’s Westworld. The showrunners are Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan, who also wrote and executive produced Westworld. It will finally be released on Amazon Prime on April 12, 2024. Assuming they follow the cadence of other shows, there should be a new episode released every week.
