Dark Envoy Teases the Summoner and Assassin Specializations

Developers Event Horizon Games have been working on their newest CRPG called Dark Envoy. They initially announced the game way back in 2019 and is set to release this October 24th. Leading up to the release, the developers have been teasing a couple of the specializations that players can pick up to customize their characters.

Class is in Session

Dark Envoy will have players follow the quest of two siblings, Malakai and Kaela, as they strive to survive in an unforgiving fantasy world filled with death and danger at every turn. So what’s an adventurer to do in a hostile environment? Search for fame and fortune, of course!

It was previously confirmed that there would be four base “classes” that Malakai and Kaela could become in Dark Envoy. This is further broken down into 12 specializations, divided into four per class.

The basic classes are the Warrior, Ranger, Engineer, and Adept. They are pretty self-explanatory if you’re versed in RPGs, like the warrior being tanky, rangers being ranged, adepts at using magic, and engineers mastering anything tech-worthy.

Going deeper down into specializations, Dark Adept has given us a sneak peek into two so far. First is the Summoner, which comes from the Adept base class. They make use of magic to bond with the spirits of nature and bring them forth into the battlefield to wreak havoc and destruction. They are also druidic, as they can eventually shapeshift into even more powerful forms.

Dark Envoy - Assassin Skills

As of writing, Dark Envoy showed us three Summoner skills. First is the Tree of Atonement, an ability that lets you sprout out a small yet deadly tree that taunts enemies. Being the brambly plant that it is, the Tree also reflects damage onto its attackers. Lastly, if summoners place two Trees in close proximity to each other, they will create a vine that links them to each other and roots enemies that come too close.

The Summoner can also lay down some Living Vines that will deal consistent poison damage while also rooting enemies in place. If you want to go for a more direct damage route, you also have access to Call of the Wild, which blasts out Magic Missiles and also summons a wolf companion to do your bidding for a short duration.

Dark Envoy Assassin

Assassins are sneaky and deadly, especially here in Dark Envoy. As expected, they can blend in with the shadows using Shadow Cloak and become temporarily invisible. The assassin moves faster and also grants increased critical damage for a short duration after breaking stealth. It is also worth noting that not all skills will cause you to become visible, giving you more options on how to set up the battlefield perfectly in your favor.

What makes the Assassin in Dark Envoy more unique though is that they have options to control the battlefield, and not just deal humongous burst damage. Tether Rod is a skill that they can employ to draw enemies into an area of your choosing. Foes caught within the AOE are slowed and constantly dragged toward the center. Perfect for following up with your Adept’s elemental strikes.

Lastly, they can set up their foes with Slaughter, which is essentially a burst damage skill that can target three individual foes. The Assassin jumps from enemy to enemy, dealing massive damage to each of them one after the other. Time to sneakily take out the enemy’s entire backline without them noticing!

A Sandbox within an RPG

Players can assign different classes and specializations of their choosing to the main characters. Additionally, you can recruit different unique companions to further customize your combat party, creating a perfectly oiled killing machine. Players will also be able to mix and match abilities from the different skill trees, adding even more depth to the customization.

Each specialization will have 6 active skills (only three for the Assassin and Summoner were previewed so far) and 4 passive skills to mix and match. Other specializations mentioned before were the formidable Guardian and icy supportive Praetor which come from the Warrior base class. We also have the Ranger’s Chaos Walker specialization who trades their own HP for increased damage. The Constructor was also mentioned, an Engineer subclass that can overwhelm foes with an army of tiny deadly robots.

Do keep in mind though that selecting a specialization won’t be as simple as clicking off one from a menu. Some of the Specializations are rare, and can only be unlocked by finding the instructions in hidden locations or being trained after completing specific side quests.
