The Legendary Hero Is Dead! Announces April 6 Premiere

Crunchyroll will simulcast The Legendary Hero Is Dead! TV anime for international audiences on April 6. The production team has released a new promotional trailer featuring the anime’s opening theme song by Masayoshi Oishi, viewable below.


Additional cast members joining The Legendary Hero Is Dead! include Sayaka Ohara as Esel Borgnine, Wataru Hatano as Belarco, Takashi Aoki as Isaac Gardner, and Chikahiro Kobayashi as Leland Tallman. Kensho Ono and Shintaro Asanuma will also appear in the upcoming anime as Friedrich Norstein and Diego Valentine, respectively.

Fans will recognize Sayaka Ohora as Erza Scarlet in Fairy Tail. She also previously assumed episodic roles in Vinland Saga and Blue Period. Wataru Hatano is best known for his role as Motojiro Kajii in Bungo Stray Dogs, while Takashi Aoki made a name for himself as Iriya in the Blade of the Immortal TV anime.

The Legendary Hero is Dead! follows Touka, an average farmer who lives a routine life in the village of Cheza. The original manga also stars Sion, the real hero who battles demons to prevent genocide while Touka daydreams about getting a girlfriend and being a hero. After he accidentally kills Sion and buries his body to hide the evidence, Touka wakes up the next day to realize he is no longer in his own body.

As for the staff members, Rion Kujo is at the helm of the anime with Yu Sato supervising scripts for the series. Yosuke Yabumoto is designing the characters, while Kanako Nishi and Yukio Kando are composing the music for The Legendary Hero Is Dead! anime at LIDEN FILMS.

The main protagonist Touka and Sion are both voiced by Shunichi Toki, who was previously attached to Demon Slayer – Kimetsu No Yaiba as Kiyoshi, Tokyo Revengers as Kazutora Hanemiya, and Duel Masters King Max as Hyde. The other cast members include Ayana Taketatsu (Classroom of the Elite) as Anri Haysword, Chikahiro Kobayashi as Leland Tallman, and Hibiku Yamamura as Yuna Yuris.

The Legendary Hero Is Dead! is based on the manga series written by Subaruichi, which was serialized from 2014 to 2020 in Shogakukan’s Ura Sunday web comic magazine. The magazine published the manga’s final volume in 2021, one year before a spinoff launched in May 2022.
