A new chapter, The Final Note, will tell the tale from the antagonist’s view.

Bloober Team has announced that its curious horror title, Layers of Fear, will make its debut on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC this June. The studio announced the targeted release window with a minute-long in-engine trailer.

Bloober Team has been hard at work unifying the previous entries in the Layers series since June 2022. The studio’s upcoming horror title will reimagine 2016’s Layers of Fear alongside its expansion, titled Inheritance. The new Layers of Fear game will incorporate the story of the sequel into its texture as well. As the “crowning work of the Layers series,” the new title will not only update the previous games with new mechanics and horror sequences but will also introduce a new chapter called The Final Note.

While the minute-long trailer does not reveal much from the upcoming title, the developers state that the new game will expand the story of the original Layers of Fear. Additionally, The Final Note chapter will allow the players to see the story from the perspective of the antagonist, the Painter’s wife.

Some scenes in the new trailer should ring a few bells for those who have delved into previous Layers of Fear games in the past, but with the new title being developed in Unreal Engine 5, it should allow the game to offer a more immersive horror experience while retelling the story of the series.

And to those who remember the game as “Layers of Fears,” not “Layers of Fear,” you are correct. That’s because Bloober Team did announce the new horror title with the name Layers of Fears. But according to a recent tweet, the team decided to drop the “s” in the branding. The tweet reads, “by adding the ‘s’ we wanted to emphasize that this game is based on the original games but also contains new storylines that bond every thread from the series.”

While this creative decision made sense back then, it appeared that the fans of the series were not happy with it, resulting in the studio switching the name of the title back to the original. “However, we received feedback from our fans who loved the original name,” explains the official Twitter account.

Among the other titles in the Poland-based game studio’s arsenal are The Medium, Observer, and Blair Witch. Experienced when it comes to telling horror stories, Bloober Team is also working on the remake of cult classic Silent Hill 2, which doesn’t have a definitive release date.
