“We have no doubt that Cuisineer will be a great addition to our diverse menu of indie games,” says XSEED executive vice president Kenji Hosoi.

Upcoming food-themed action roguelike Cuisineer from developer BattleBrew Productions is set to be released by Western publishers XSEED Games and Marvelous Europe for PC via Steam this summer. Initially unveiled at PAX East 2022, Cuisineer is BattleBrew Productions’ first title.

“We’re excited to have found supportive partners in XSEED Games and Marvelous Europe who feel as passionately about the game as we do,” says Shawn Toh, co-founder and CEO of BattleBrew Productions. “We can’t wait to be able to serve up Cuisineer to players around the world later this year!”

DUALSHOCKERS VIDEO OF THE DAY

Cuisineer stars the spatula-wielding, boba-sipping Pom, a young adventurer tasked with returning to her hometown of Paell and restoring the former glory of her family’s restaurant. Surrounding the restaurant and town on all sides is a charcuterie of procedurally-generated biomes, each of which contains the high-quality ingredients that Pom must gather in order to supply her restaurant’s new menu.

As players tick off more and more items on Pom’s grocery list, Pom will unlock bigger and beefier dishes to whip up for her hungry, hungry patrons. Her shopping trips, so to speak, won’t be without their obstacles, however. The metaphorical aisles of each biome are overflowing with foes: to defeat them and clear the path, Pom must call upon the powers of the palate — Bitter, Sour, Salty, Sweet, Frosty, Toasty, and Umami — and put her good old spatula to some very creative use.

While many roguelikes past have featured robust food and hunger systems, Cuisineer will be the first action roguelike to feature a food theme. In fact, it was this very attribute that helped Cuisineer to seize the attention and backing of XSEED Games. “BattleBrew Productions immediately caught our eye at PAX East 2022 with their bright visuals, adorable characters, and unique food-based approach,” states Kenji Hosoi, executive vice president of XSEED Games. Punning on the game’s culinary charm, he adds, “We have no doubt that Cuisineer will be a great addition to our diverse menu of indie games and serve up a fantastic roguelike for gamers.”

While no release date has been set as yet, the game’s listing on the Steam store currently suggests a planned release window of September 2023. Whether this will be changed to coincide with the summer release window listed on the XSEED Games website remains to be seen.
