10 Best Suits For Red Hood
Superheroes have a proud tradition of having a wide variety of alternate outfits, as seen in Gotham Knights. The Bat-family is no exception, with the four main family members having an assortment of costumes to choose from. The Red Hood, Jason Todd, has his family’s proclivity for being outlandish, and this extends to his fashion sense.
Warner Bros and WB Montreal have given players a number of options to wear while taking Hood across the streets and rooftops of Gotham City. Not all costumes are created equal, and some are simply cooler than others, and in the world of comics, the Rule of Cool matters a lot.
10 New Guard
A recolor of his default Gotham Knights costume, and one that works well as a variant for the vigilante bruiser. The gray hoodie contrasts well with his minimal armoring on his arms and legs, giving him a street-level appearance that would strike fear into anyone that sees him approaching.
The only major downside is that the outfit has almost no differences physically from the standard Red Hood outfit beyond the color palette.
9 Beyond
The Beyond suit is styled off of the design concepts of Terry McGinnis, who assumes the role of Batman (Beyond) in the far future when Gotham has evolved into a cyberpunk-styled hive of activity. The form-fitting nano-suit style works well as a near-future concept, and the leg spikes are an interesting spin on the arm gauntlets seen on most Batman suits.
The only complaints would be the noticeable lack of black or gray coloring, common colors on Red Hood’s outfits in DC Comics, but the suit itself can seem out of place within the context of modern-day Gotham City, lacking the cyberpunk styling the suit was made to work alongside.
8 Privateer
The Privateer outfit takes design concepts from pre-industrial era pirates, with flared jackets, wide gauntlets, and plenty of belts. The design avoids the same mistake many other period-piece costumes make, and keeps itself reasonable within a modern setting.
It wears the pirate inspirations loud and proud but maintains its functionality as a suit that Jason Todd would wear out on patrol.
7 Knight Ops
Sleek, efficient, and militaristic, the Knight Ops suit is a perfect outfit for the brutal and efficient Red Hood to wear while dealing with the criminal underworld’s worst individuals. The dark colorings are used as highlights against a military/police off-white and deep blue, giving the suit a government or prototype aesthetic that suits the Bat-family perfectly.
The Knight Ops is as close to brutalist minimalism as someone like Jason would ever get, without losing the styles of Batman’s influence.
6 Neon Noir
The all black and gray outfit is a common trope in comics, with heroes like Spider-Man and Superman having dark-colored costumes for certain occasions or memorable storylines. Neon Noir is perfect for someone hoping to keep Jason as cloaked in the dark as possible, though only in aesthetic, as the suit itself doesn’t grant an in-game stealth bonus.
The only downside is the same thing that draws people’s attention to it, the lack of coloring. While Red Hood isn’t as brightly colored as Robin or Starfire, having some color can be essential to a memorable suit design.
5 Talon
The Talon suit is a good example of a costume built off the story’s premise. The suit gives Jason the proper design styling of other Talon agents that he and the Bat-family fight against over the course of the main storyline, either as a ‘What-If?’ idea of Jason being turned into a Talon, or Jason taking his foe’s technology and adapting it to fit his own needs.
Regardless of how or why, the Talon suit manages to blend seamlessly into the Red Hood concept, and looks beautiful in action.
4 Default
Red Hood’s default costume isn’t perfect, but it is a good starting design that does Jason Todd justice. The mesh hoodie built into his armored undersuit is a high-tech iteration of his usual jacket-over-armor outfit that’s a natural endpoint of Red Hood having access to the technologies and funding of Wayne Enterprises.
It’s not the most stylish or iconic costume, but the default uniform is one of the better default costumes in the game among the Bat-family. Sometimes iterating on a design is better than trying to reinvent the wheel.
3 Knighthood
Another mostly-black suit design, but this one is much more Red Hood’s style. Unlocked for completing the game once, the Knighthood puts Jason in a black cut-off leather jacket over black armor and a black undersuit, with a bright neon red bat symbol outlined on the chest.
Even though this bat symbol isn’t fully colored, the color contrast makes the outline stand out more prominently than other suits’ bat symbols, showcasing Jason’s allegiance to Bruce’s ideals loud and proud in his own special way. It’s cool, sleek, and memorable, just like the Bat-family likes their costumes.
2 Knightwatch
Based on one of Red Hood’s common outfits in DC Comics, Knightwatch is a beautiful rendition of Jason’s memorable 2-D design being translated into three-dimensional motion. The breakup of colors, intersected with black straps and padding, is a perfect mixture of Jason Todd’s more grounded arsenal and clothing with Wayne Tech armor and technologies.
Comic book, movie, and cartoon costumes appearing in superhero video games is all but a given, and Jason Todd having one of his most well-known outfits be wearable in-game is one more step towards playing an interactive comic book. The Knightwatch costume is one that any player using Red Hood should strive to acquire.
1 Year One
Jason Todd didn’t always have access to Bruce’s fortune, and the time he spent as Red Hood in the early days was violent, low budget, and the very definition of a vigilante, more resembling The Punisher than a member of the Bat-family.
Year One is this design brought to life in brilliant fashion, with minimal high-tech armor and gadgets, instead showcasing Jason’s militaristic mindset with boots, padding, a jacket, and an under-shirt. It’s the core embodiment of Red Hood’s design ideology and Jason’s mindset regarding his work, and this costume is the purest representation of that mindset.
