In My Singing Monsters, there are plenty of monsters to collect and breed. This guide will break down how to breed Grumpyre, the ethereal bat.
Quick Links
My Singing Monsters for some are a blast in the past, but recently the fan base for this musical creature collecting frenzy has gone up. Centered around making musical tunes, getting the best monster for the job is crucial. Starting out gives you a lot of paths to choose from, but a solid option would be Grumpyre.
This flying bat-like monster can be first found on Cold Island and used in a variety of ways. From a good resource for beginners in-game, to an addition to the full collection of monsters, Grumpyre is a useful creature to own.
Setting Up The Breeding Process
To start the process, a Deedge is required. The first step would be to reach level 9, Deedge will not be obtainable before then. The process to hatch a normal Deedge is as simple as breeding Thumpies and Toe Jammer. This is the best possible combination for success. There are several other monsters that could be used to produce a Deedge.
The combinations for Deedge are as follows:
- Dandidoo and Maw
- Quibble and Furcorn
- Pango and Oaktopus
- Spunge and Mammott
- Thumpies and Toe Jammer
- Congle and Potbelly
- Bowgart and Tweedle
Once Deedge is obtained, a three-element monster is required. This ranged anywhere from Congle to Thumpies, so there’s no need to worry about which monster is the other parent. Yet, during an Ethereal Breeding Bonanza — which heightens the chances of producing more ethereal and mythical monsters — a Grumpyre might be easier to obtain. It’s important to remember that Grumpyre is Ethereal, so mythical events won’t apply to this creature.
Breeding Grumpyre
Now that you have both a Deedge and a three-element monster, it’s time to breed them. The process might be a bit tricky, but using the methods that follow make obtaining this flying friend a bit easier. With a variety of islands, there are only two that Grumpyre can be bred on: Cold Island and Ethereal Island.
Head to the Breeding Structure and select both Deedge and your three-element monster of choice. Once the process has begun, it will take 1 day and 12 hours (36 hours) on Cold Island to hatch. Ethereal Island will only take 10 hours to incubate.
Getting Grumpyre on the first try is rare, so don’t give up quite yet. The more breeding is done for Grumpyre, the higher chance of obtaining it becomes. Once you’ve completed 70 attempts, your chances are already raised to 50%. While the highest percent without breeding two Grumpyres is obtained at 690 attempts, with a 99.9% chance.
Grumpyre’s Likes & Uses
Placing other monsters or items that a monster likes next to it increases its happiness. These will need to be next to the monster unless you have a Unity Tree. Then the item can be placed anywhere on the island. Raising happiness is a very helpful asset, as raising happiness means more coins are produced.

This Ethereal bat friend is also a useful part of any music tune. The music changes between Cold and Ethereal island. On Cold Island, it will be a “boom shicka-la-shicka” repeated twice over, while on Ethereal island, this is repeated.
With a considerably low rate of hatching, this monster proves valuable to any island. Be sure to get your own Grumpyre for your musical melody soon!
