A remaster of We Love Katamari will be coming to Nintendo Switch on June 2 this year, as announced in today’s Nintendo Direct livestream. Titled We Love Katamari Reroll+ Royal Reverie, the remaster will feature five new challenges, as well as a never-before-seen selfie mode.
Developed by Bandai Namco, the Katamari series first launched on PlayStation 2 in 2004 as Katamari Damacy. Although numerous sequels have been released over the years, We Love Katamari Reroll+ Royal Reverie will be the first new title in the series since 2018’s Katamari Damacy Reroll, itself a remaster of the 2004 original.
The direct sequel to Katamari Damacy Reroll, We Love Katamari Reroll+ Royal Reverie tells the tongue-in-cheek tale of the King Of All Cosmos’s reaction to the sleeper success of the first Katamari title. To appease all these Katamari fans he never knew he had, the King Of All Cosmos enlists the help of his son, the Prince, once again, asking him to go down to Earth and please one and all by rolling yet more and more things up into another big old Katamari.
As gleefully shown off in today’s trailer, We Love Katamari Reroll+ Royal Reverie will task players with rolling up Katamari of zoo animals, classroom implements, and even outer space. When players aren’t rolling around on Earth and in the starlit ether, they can chill out and listen to classic Katamari songs in the game’s music corner, or roll endlessly in the Eternal Mode, which despite being a staple of the series, was never available in the original We Love Katamari for PlayStation 2.
Months ahead of the commercial release of We Love Katamari Reroll+ Royal Reverie, a free demo of Katamari Damacy Reroll will be available to Nintendo Switch Online members from 10AM PT on February 20 to 11:59PM on February 26. At the time of this writing, the full version of Katamari Damacy Reroll is available as a digital download for Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Amazon Luna, and Google Stadia for the price of $29.99 USD.
We Love Katamari Reroll+ Royal Reverie now has its own listing on the Nintendo Switch eShop, but no price or pre-order option has been added to the listing as yet. Although the game was initially revealed via today’s Nintendo Direct, Bandai Namco has since confirmed that We Love Katamari Reroll+ Royal Reverie will also be rolling up on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam on June 2.
