The game gets an all-new Epilogue chapter with Magolor as a playable character and four-player co-op along with a host of side mini-games.

Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe now has a confirmed release date thanks to the latest Nintendo Direct. Originally a Wii exclusive, the game will be coming to Nintendo Switch a few weeks later, on February 24. A free demo with selectable stages and sub-games is now available to download from the Nintendo eShop.

In the Wii version of the game, Kirby and his friends helped an alien named Magolor collect 120 energy orbs to repair his ship, and in return, Magolor offered to take them to his home planet. However, Magolor was only a plot device at the time, not a playable character. The Nintendo Switch version features a new epilogue accessible after completing the main story in which Magolor becomes a playable character with his own set of special abilities, as revealed in the latest trailer.

In Magolor’s Epilogue, the interdimensional traveler has lost all his powers and must escape the realm between dimensions. Limited to basic attacks and jumping, the player must help him regain his powers by collecting magic points from defeated enemies. His powers range from levitation, attack enhancement, and extended range, to name a few. There are 20 abilities to recover, and players can choose the order in which they unlock these abilities, making each playthrough unique based on the player’s choices. In addition, up to four players can venture through this mysterious realm together.

Outlets like GameRant got a chance to preview the game and discovered new features that make it more enjoyable, such as a hub world that provides access to mini-games and cosmetic masks for the playable characters to distinguish them during the chaotic cooperative play. IGN adds that the game has added a few new enemies (and corresponding morph suits), as well as some ultimate transformations, not to mention the remapping of all Wii controls to the Switch’s Joy-Cons. The game’s main attraction remains its multiplayer, but there are other new features revealed in last September’s Nintendo Direct, such as Kirby’s Mecha transformation, a comic book-style art style, and the new subgames, some of which are included in the currently available demo.
