Prepare to return to the strategy gem that is Advanced Wars.

Advance Wars comes charging back into gaming with the reveal of the release date of Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp finally being revealed for April 21 on Nintendo Switch.

Re-Boot Camp is a remake of the first two Advance Wars titles, originally released on the GameBoy Advance system. The game is a strategy RPG in which the player must overcome enemies as well as map obstacles to achieve victory. The series was revered for its amazing sprite work, engaging mechanics, and simple-to-play nature. The player must use the terrain and units to try to gain the upper hand on the enemy team. The last title in the series, Days of Ruin on the DS, was released in 2008, and it had a much darker tone than the series was initially known for. From the looks of it, Re-Boot Camp will return the series to its original bright visuals 13 years after the release of the last title.

The game was delayed from its initial release date due to the outbreak of the Ukraine conflict, with Nintendo citing at the time that it did not seem appropriate to release a game about war. While it was a thoughtful decision, many feared that the game had been shelved for good, as no new release date was announced after the delay. Jumping forward to today’s Nintendo Direct, the game was re-revealed, with a new release date to boot. The new trailer didn’t offer any new gameplay footage but detailed some of the elements of the remake, including head-to-head multiplayer and a map maker with the ability to share your creations online with friends. The trailer also hints that there are other modes besides the story and the multiplayer which will allow you to “flex your strategic muscles.”

With the release date just around the corner, fans are no doubt champing at the bit to replay these classic titles, and it may also hold appeal for fans of simlar strategy-based gameplay, such as Fire Emblem.
